Project: Empty wallet

Well the weather is starting to break up here in Ontario so the build begins finally. Between work fluctuations and saving for a house its been tight to make any progress lately but priorties right.....

Anyways after scrapping the og sedan cause of cancer I was looking for a solid sedan as a base to start fresh from. As it turns out its really hard to find one in southern Ontario that isn't full of cheese or just plain full of rust, I must have looked at 20 or so across a year and a half span and a few were close but I was looking for a specific colour and solidness. Happy I did wait cause in November 2007 I found this sedan, albeit in Thunderbay 22 hour drive one way, but me and pops made the trek and bought it a week later for $2k.

Car lived all its life in the Yukon and was a one owner till' I grabbed it, the owners son actually drove it here for school then wanted a minivan for camping and the such. Biggest thing is they do not use salt in the northwest territories as I was told by the seller and it shows in the condition of the body being never oil sprayed not even the factory option.

Car is being built mainly for track weekends whenever I find time between work and school but will be plated.

Car is a 1991 sedan LS manual windows/locks, no air or cruise, 4afe/5 speed.
weighed 2240lbs with half tank of gas.

As I bought it:

This is the worst and really only flaw in the metal aside from some rust in the passenger side door bottoms and drivers floor.

And the way it sits as of this weekend

And as you can see the little start of surface rust in the floor well but that will be taken care of via sanding and por-15

Look solid strut towers, a rare find in Ontario

I put the blue interior in my 90 sedan and will be using a grey interior in this one. I am currently debating if I should paint the engine bay when the rest of it gets painted or not. So far I see no rust in the bay but the car will be going two-tone and the upper half will be dark grey from the bodyline up so when opening the hood might look a bit off. We will see how much I can wait.

Some small updates, first on the list is getting the rear suspension sorted out. I am using the gts rear disk set-up and the one I have was full of rust and a pita to take apart but it happened. Next its off to sandblast then powdercoat all the pieces, and dealership for some new hardware and wheel bearings.

I also ordered poly bushings from toyheadauto.com for the front and rear as well as whiteline sways 24mm adjustable front and 18mm rear. I have read that for track duties ae92s like a little softer rear. When its too stiff the rear has a tendancy to slide out when cornering but that is just what I have read and I'm no expert in suspension set-up, I will be setting this up more for the drags anyways but might play around from time to time.

Bazda from twincam.org and a few other sites says he even went back to the stock 13mm rear sway bar after trying the 20mm whiteline adj. as he says the stock bar it better suited when really pushing the car.

His car 7agte with 20v head and the second video of the dyno says 280kw on 20 psi so 280kw x 1.34= 375.2whp. I think he has alot more now.

Also found this guy hiding in the rear subframe. I assume its toyota form of a damper there is usually one on the front as well, not sure if sedans and sr5's have them but this gts did good for about 6 pounds. Also the second picture show the gts's have this extra support piece that bolts to a crossmember underneath, sedans don't have this and I am unsure about sr5's. I am going to have to drill holes and use nut and bolt to use this though.

And everybody likes new shiny parts and this car is getting alot of them. Here is a link for the poly bushings

Nice... but poor Canadian cars (rust)! Nice job on this one... always good to see a complete stripdown of the interior and a solid rebuild. What are your final goals for the car?

phase one includes getting the most out of a 2nd gen gze with the stock sc12 and electronics. This will mean redoing most of the intake tract and mayby a larger pulley. Phase two hopefully will be high 12 sec 1/4 mile passes, but we will get into that later on in the show.

You have no idea how pissed I was when you first posted pictures of the gts subframes, that shit looks like you got it from the dealer. The one I pictured above is the cleanest one I had out of 5.

And yes more updates will come when money comes in and more importantly the weather holds steady for more than a day, damn ontario springs.

And I just found out about that whole other section of emociations(sp?) I will be using them more frequently in the coming days. Hopefully will have more updates by the end of this weekend, I get every friday off so lots of time to work on her baring the weather.

And jmaz not worried about the "jacking" its filling time while I wait.

Well, like i said this was a very lucky find...
Some Race shop in Tampa FL likes the AE92 body for their Rotary drag car with full tube chassis. so they plasma cut the entire body i saw two uni bodies RUST FREE i just wish i had a trailor at the time...

i may have to call them again...

After months of bitching Eage8 got me to rape the only gts in my local yard but this is FL so there are other yards...
email me and i'll let you know when i find another one...
