I have seen lots of pictures of nice AE92 Sedans with real bumpers on them. Mine is an '88 and has the rubbery plastic bumpers that are black rubber colour.
I'd really like to convert it to real front and rear bumpers to give it a more solid look. Did they make '88s with real bumpers on them? Can say a 90's Ae92 bumper bolt right on for the Sedan if I hit up the junker?
I've browsed the searches on the forum for infos, and come across stuff about 'Levin' bumpers and JDM stuff, but don't really want to go that far...I just want real bumpers that I can paint along with the car
Anyone with any information for me before I go buying parts would be greatly appreciated!

Black bumpers are "real" also. I'm not sure what you are talking about here.
All AE92 bumpers are rubber like, even the painted ones.
So why not just paint your bumper?
EDIT, all the coupes are a flexible rubber like material anyway, even the painted ones.
Hmm...I must be thinking something totally retarded, or this must be one of those JDM bumpers that were mentioned or something...but isn't this an AE92 Sedan without them?

i also have a sedan with the the black bumper, (i personally like it), but im like 95% sure the bumper in the pic and the other bumpers you have seen are just the black ones painted. i mean a little prepping and lots of clear coat will do wonders. also most of these bumpers you see are the same color as the car so which leads me to believe the car is not its factory color and they just told the paint shop to paint the bumper as well when they got the new paint.

My coupe had a flexible bumper on it and my car was a solid color. It was wrecked however and the bumper was torn, so I replaced it with a bumper from a car that had black bumpers.
You can paint the black bumpers also, you arent doing the paint yourself anyway are you?
if you take it to any body shop they will be able to tell you they can paint them.
The bumper on the red sedan appears to be an import bumper, notice how much less of a parkbench it is. Stock North American ones stick out much farther. The problem with those imports like that is you would have to do something with the big bumper support behind it. You can though find the North American bumpers that match the car(I guess the real ones you were talking about) on the higher end models of the sedan(dlx, etc) for later years, however I'm not sure when the switch was made though, I think '91 but I know I've seen '92s with the matching bumpers. The trick is to find the same color bumper, I've yet to do that, I'm not even sure if they made anything past the base model in the darker blue like I have.
