New stereo Install

I installed my Panasonic stereo this morning. This is the high mounted stereo in my sedan. Took the original brackets and popped them on the new stereo. Only problem is the stereo sits back in the dash too far to snap on the trim ring that came with the Panasonic. I installed the brackets in the only spot on the stereo where everything would match. Did I do something wrong? Can I just shim the brackets so it moves the stereo out farther?

Problem solved. I went a tore the dash apart again. I had the brackets mounted to far forward on the side of the stereo. There was another set of holes about 1/4" back. I am a idiot. Sorry.
