Hey guys I'm thinking of getting an intake for my 90 sedan, im basically trying to get a little more pick up, you know a LITTLE more acceleration so i don't have to floor it just to go forty up an incline.
-Are there any other cheap mods for a little more hp.
- also is a short ram intake illegal in California??? also whats the difference between a cold air intake
i think those will fit, they're illegal if they dont have the CARB number , my intake gave my car a really deep sound but not so much on the hp, and once you put your intake in, you will start hearing a drumming sound because of a vaccum
it helps a little but hurts at the same time. it hurts in the sense that yes you may have a negligble power gain and nicer throatier sound but if you're riding with anybody in the car they'll have this thought: "wow their car is making a lot of noise for not going ver fas...and oh... oh hey were now at 20!.........21!.... "

NOOOO, i've been scanning the internet and haven found any CARB exempt intakes, well what are some suggestions on how i can use one and not get caught???, i mean god i don't see how an intake can produce more pollution, darn California.
well, before you smog throw the old filter, box and hose to the manifold. doesn't help if for some reason a cop would check it. but just hold on to the old stuff, shouldn't take too long to swap
i mean do cops really do that "pop the hood" junk, hell i see people get pulled over all the time (on this one stretch of road, usually for speeding) but i never see them get out and open their hood and try to convince cops their not running illegal aftermarket parts. And i havent had the 'rolla smoged in a while, i just get an okay letter in the mail.
To answer your question about the difference between cold air and short ram: Short ram draws air from the engine bay, while cold air draws cold air usually from somewhere like the wheel-well. Colder air=denser air=more combustible air=more power. Short ram makes a difference too, though not as drastic, yet cheaper. If you have a EFI engine, make a cold-air (home depot is your friend).
I wish, i live in california and it has to be CARB legal, otherwise it wont pas a smog test, uhhh im so jealous of you guys who dont live here. You get all the fun mods.

put it this way...if you speed and make a loud noise your chances of getting ur hood poped is about 3 to 4.
just never give the cops a reason to pull you over and you wont have a problem. such as: keep your front lisence plate, not too bright hids, blastic hella loud music down the road, keep your car clean as possible(not too much jdm stickers, not that loud or big of an exhaust), try not to speed, stuff like that.
ooh and were having a ae92 meet in artesia if your down to come message me or toyotaboyfreak
