Well I am getting impatient waiting for the sedan to get running again so I took the gts out for some thrashing. Car is a bone stock 1989 gts with a magnaflow muffler, urethane motor mounts, and 205/50/15 drag radials. Best run of the night was a 16.7 @ 82 mph not bad for an original engine with 190 000km on it. That run I held it at 5500rpm and dropped it off the line shifting at 7000rpm into second and third. I was able to hold third through the traps at 7400rpm just made it. I don't think there is any one here into the drags but just so you know what they are capable of.

Clocked with a G-tech (starts from launch, reaction time isn't factored). Did one other low 18 second run. Topping out 3rd. I'll be doing more soon. It's a fun toy.
Dan if that thing didn't fall on its face should have been mid to lowish 14's, my stock gze ran 15.0 @ 91mph with a whole lot wrong I posted it on that thread on club4ag a while back.
jmaz I really want to see what that thing is capable of, you should find some 13s while you can still fit them on your car with a small slick or drag radial to make better use of the c50's longer gearing.
you could try using the 175/70/13 that are most likely on the stock rims but you would have to ease it off the line then get into it once rolling, they are about 22" diameter. If you could borrow or get some cheap used slicks that would be best something like a 22x7.5x13 or even 20x7.5x13 width could vary but around that diameter. Also the (don't bash me for this) older honda vx rims are very light and strong and could probably be had for cheap.
You want to get the car spooled and in its peak torque rpm and launch it from there but with a slick or drag radial you stand a good chance of breaking something transmission wise so be ready if you try it this way. When I took the gze out for the first time I was using a c52 still with a stock clutch and some worn winter tires, back then I didn't want to break anything so I left the line around 3000rpm and sometimes had to shift early when the clutch started to slip so I really don't know what a c series will stand up to.
Best bet is start off with a low rpm launch get a feel for track conditions and how the car responds and go from there. Your making great torque so should see mid 14s but thats all depending on how it moves off the line. Can't wait for some numbers and try to somewhat document how you move the car off the line and shift points, mayby bring a few different size tires if poss.
yes but i was an idiot and didn't borrow my buddies slicks...
that coupled with 2 weeks of rain previously meant NO TRACTION AT ALL
there was no easing about it... as soon as i built boost 1st or 2nd would just burn out and spin up... i was constantly throttling back and forth fighting all the way until 3rd gear.....
couldnt even break 15's....................
definately borrowing my buddies slicks prob. next wed
