1991 Corolla dies when MAP unplugged - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums

Hello,I have a 1991 Corolla 1.6 (6 vin code) that has been idling rough. Check engine light has been on for a while. I was able to pull codes 25,26 and 31. I unplugged MAP sensor(code 31) and the car died immediately. The other two codes are for lean and rich conditions. I know the MAP should not cause the car to totally die so I'm not sure what this means. Lack of fuel? Vacuum is 18-19. Checked PCV,cannister purge. They test OK. I'm going to replace fuel filter since it's overdue. Thanks for any help.

Obviously... engine lost its load sensor, therefor fueling would be impossible = shut off.

The ECU doesn't know what's going on anymore. You would stop runnig to if you just went blind right?

it can run if everything else is properly running right, but it will run like poop and uber rich... the map will be reading ambient air as it's vacuum......
