Does my '90 have theft deterrent installed?

I'm not the original owner of my 1990 Corolla 4A-FE with A/T. What's an easy way to tell if it has the OEM "theft deterrent" system installed? Is there supposed to be any thing obvious on the dash? What about wires I could look for in the engine compartment?

What do such systems do? Do they disable the whole electrical system? Or do they merely disable the starter or some subsystem?

I don't think it has any deterrents.

If you want a simple kill switch, theres two red wires going to the tranny. Put a switch on it. They're basically neutral safety wires. Car won't start if the tranny's not in P or N. Put a switch in, can't start it unless it's in P or N with the switch on!

OEM theft deterrent was probably available in 1990 since the 1990 service manual shows that option and gives a wiring diagram for it. I'm just looking for an easy way to tell if the car has it without deciphering the wiring diagram.

I don't want a theft deterrent system. I just want to make sure it isn't the cause of a mysterious problem I have with my starter not working.

My 92 came with it. The dash had a security light. The theft detterent would go crazy on me sometimes so I took and just snipped all the cables. Supposedly the computer for the theft det is under the pass side kick panel. I never pulled it out, just found a wiring diagram and snipped the cables.
