Newest C50 Tranny comes from what?

Hey guys, I just bought a 4AGE smallport to swap into my sedan. I've been looking into trannies to put in and have decided on the C50 over the C52 due to its taller 5th gear for freeway use. My questions are:

Are the latest C50s the best ones? (supposedly containing upgraded syncros etc.)
What were the latest C50s found in? 7th Gen Corollas?
Was the c50 mated to the 7afe from the factory?

Thanks

I think that the AE101 had a C56 if I'm correct.

Hey, thanks but I was referring to an actual C50 not a C5X. I guess I'll do my best with rockauto or CSK catalogs.

In another thread someone states that the 7afe wagons got a c52 with the taller fifth gear, but that is just heresay. You could also look into the possibility of swapping a c50 fifth gear into a c52, c56.

The gearbox attached to the 7A-FE engines (Celica and Corolla) have the same final drive(differential), and gear ratios (1st - 5th), as the one attached to the 4A-FE, except 1st gear which is a tad taller for the 7A.

The gearbox attached to the 4A-GE bigport, have the same ratios as the 4A-FE, but have a shorter final drive.
The reason for this is because the 4A-GE has less torque at lower RPMs, and needs to spin more to keep in the power band.

I don't know if there is a difference between the gearboxes from the bigport, to smallport.

Ok, so the only place I was able to find any posted info on the C50 was wikipedia. I know, i know... it was the only place I could find or the info it provided was the same as other sources.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_C_transmission
So here is what I found. The C52 is listed to have a "final" ratio and a "differential" ratio which are different. This makes no sense to me, as those two should mean the same thing. So I went with the on that made more sense, 4.058 since the C50 has the 3.722. If the C52 had the 3.722 then that would make the C52/4AGE have a lower ratios overall which would have a negative effect on the 4AGEs power band.

According to the charts, the C50 has a lower first gear, 2nd, 3rd, 4th remain the same and 5th is higher than the C52.

So multiplying each gear with the final ratio, I get the total ratio for each gear.

C50 1st-13.90 2nd-7.09 3rd-4.88 4th-3.61 5th-3.03
C52 1st-12.85 2nd-7.73 3rd-5.32 4th-3.93 5th-3.31

So it appears that the C50 starts out lower and ends up higher which seems to make the C52 a close ratio tranny version of the C50.

Well anyways, that's my theory, what do you guys think?

The 4A-GEs were attached to a C50 with a 4.311 final drive.
The newer 4A-FE and 7A-FE used a C52 and have a 3.722 final drive.

Apparently the '91 GTS have a C52 also. Check out links below.

I have a 7A-FE with a C52 in my car now and my engine turns approximately 3100 RPM at 70 mph.
The 4A-GE with the C50, turned about 3700 at 70mph.
I am getting about 2-3 mpg more now, than with the 4A-GE+C50.
