Gen6 Gearbox for AE-92

Hi,
I'm driving a Corolla AE-92-AF(year 1989) and this is using carburetor. Two weeks ago i encoutered some problem with my gear box and a mechanic suggested to change one. We went and hunting for a use one since there isn't any new one in market. We changed one set with a part number AISIN 9121-2. On testing we noted the RPM stays at 3000 for a 60 mph. This is extremely high and over consumed fuel. We suspect there are one auto gear with 3 speed and another one 4 speed and we fixed the one with 3 speed. Addtionally the original gear box part number said AISIN 9121-6. I wonder if the 2 and 6 means anything. Any guide or advice would be appreciated.

the part number is just for inventory purpose

also, the 3000 RPM at 60 mph would be on the 4-speed, since the 4-speed for the 4A-F (on the 88 and 89 models) are known for having problems engaging the 4th(overdrive) speed

Gen6

Thanks for being the first one to help me.

BTW, I don't have a overdrive feature on my box and this is sedan. Would it then be a 3 speed auto box? what are the reference part number i should use to search for the correct matching for my 4AF? And what test condition i should use the check this out? At 70MPH is reach 4000RPM, is this normal for 4AF and 1.6.

The three speed gear box is the A131L.

check the vin on the car, I'd have to find my old users manual but it should identify what gear box it has.

Dieser link soll Sie bestimmt weiter hilfen mit der teilsuche

http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q.html

Viel gluck!

yep its normal
also if you dont have the overdrive switch on the shifter, its the 3-speed you need

dont worry too much about the rpm, the little engine dont consume much fuel (hell, my dad did a 800 km per tank with a corolla with a 4A-F and a 3-speed transmision)
