Project: unriceify....thank you kijiji

Was looking through Toronto kijiji Friday and stumbled upon this little gem, called and went to pick it up saturday. For $1000 score!

The good:

2nd gen Silvertop w/c52
ACT clutch 6 puck sprung disc w/ pressure plate
All piping fairly well done
Braided line with jic fittings for remote oil filter and water lines for turbo
Almost brand new Garrett gt2554r ball bearing turbo, list price $1100.00
Wiring done properly runs good till boost comes on
2.5" stainless catback, no mufler though
Came with but not installed apexi turbo timer and afm converter
trd quick shift kit
turbo manifold stainless and well built
momo race wheel(although blue) with hub
ground control coilovers with eibach springs, kyb struts
had a recent brake job with e-brake cables
Car is a 1990 gts so better pattern interior and nicer door panels
has working sunroof

The ok:

Motegi mr7's with good rubber
some cheap aftermarket buckets but comfortable

The bad:

car does run well but the shop that did all the work didn't tune the engine at all, no rising rate, stock wastegate @ 10psi way too much, stock gts fuel pump
2 1/4" downpipe with 2 1/2" catback. Don't know what they were thinking here
when boost hits blows smoke bad, and smokes very little at idle as well
no oil cooler
wing
painted interior
dash cutout for gauges that were non-functional
car is fairly clean but does have some rust on the rear 1/4's and as usual the sunroof panel
was in a accident at some time, hit on drivers front corner not the best fix
don't have the wheel locks so will have to drill them out
neon lights everywhere
rear portion of exhaust
Had a bomex body kit but front and rear bumpers got damaged by a pothole so I was told
side skirts are molded to the rockers

Car will be my dads as he loves these things, so will return to stockish and if the compression checks out will run the silvertop in n/a form. I'm hoping the 10 psi didn't kill the rings but would explain the smoke as there is no oil in the charge pipes the turbo does have a proper oil restrictor in line. Turbo is going on the sedan.

Just a thread to bring her back alive hasn't been plated since 2005.

the po knew very little about what was done to it, as he had a shop do all the work. Its just a stock silvertop but he was driving around for months boosting to 10 psi I can't believe it didn't pop a piston. Even when I took it out for a short drive it sounds good and pulls hard but just smokes like crazy.

Nice find. What are your plans for the parts you pull off?

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

I actually thought about buying it but I was afraid at the fact that I thought I knew what car this was... but it's not the same car, the one I was thinking of had a blacktop/6spd with a hacked wiring job and the first so called "blacktop 20V swap" in the area.

I also thought it could be Ahmed's (Xenon) old car with a 20V swap, but he sold his in 06 I believe, and it was an SR5.

Nice score though... good luck.

Ya I saw that on Kijiji the 1st day it was up, and meant to post a link to it on here. I wanted to pick it up myself, but don't have the disposable cash at the moment. Glad it came to Hamilton atleast. Whenever I can get enough money together to start my own AE92 project this Fall or Spring I know where to go for parts/info/help! *wink wink* lol

Well decided not to tune it with the turbo on it, just not enough time unfortunetly. So earlier today unhooked the charge pipe from the intercooler and put the afm back in stock location. Gapped the plugs but they are too cold I'm thinking as they are still getting black, but could be from burning oil I suppose. Has ngk r bcp5rey plugs in it as I got it. Also as I have never owned a 20v before do not notice a change over at 6300rpm when I thought vvt was suppose to take over but not sure what it sounds/feels like. Also did a compression test today and got 180psi across the board.

Does anyone know what a healthy silvertop should compression test at?

Well took it to the track anyways tonight and could only do a best of 17.8 @ 76mph, only did three runs and decided it was not worth anymore untill I figure out whats going on with it. I will be returning exhaust back to stock and putting different plugs in it as well but only if I can determine that the compression that it has is ok first. If not I will re-ring it for next year.

coming back from the blistering 18.1 run. this thing needs help.

bcpr5ey, that's same range as the bigport uses... try maybe going up to 6.. bcpr6egp platinums I think is what I run on the smallport with highcomp, that might work better with a 20V higher rev/turbo setup, at least better than the 5s anyways.

Would iridiums work? I think they're colder though aren't they?

Frozentide, if you're looking for a good project you could always pick up my GTS. motor is done for now, but I have one on the way that could be in by mid summer.

Ren trust me, I would LOVE to pick up your AE92! I have been watchin your For Sale thread.

I just can't even think about a car until spring 2010. So much debt, going back to school in the fall, and currently unemployed.... so broke lol.

Lets just say that thread is outdated and I'll probably lock it as the car is not in the same condition as it was at the time I posted.

I'm working on it, damn wheel studs are harder to drill out than I first thought. Going to grab some carbide drill bits than have at it again.
