so i was taking parts off my car and the rear deck that covers the speakers tore in half -.- how do you make a new one? or can any audio shop make one for you?
Probably a u-pull-it yard. You could get some material and use the old one for a template to make a new one. I would just go the junk yard route.

Pull it out and use it as a template for a new one with some 1/4" plywood or something like that. A little 3M adhesive spray and some carpeting and you'll be set.
i went to Home Depot, they dont have any carpeting. i tried a few other places, whats my best bet? car audio joint? i need a new deck too, where the seatbelts go through it, i just ripped it out and ripped off the sides lol
ooo what about the speaker cases that go on the deck? are we able to transplant them onto a new deck? i think they're stuck on there so if you do remove them you cant secure them again
I used to get my wood carpeting from this fabric store, they have stuff called "Felt" which is perfect for carpeting boxes or wood, just use that, and spray adhesive. If you want actual floor carpeting your best bet is to order a new custom fit carpet online. :-p
And what speaker cases? Do you mean the "Pockets" that sit below the deck in the double din cage?
^^^ My bad I forgot what topic this was under. The speaker covers do come off, you could always glue them onto something else if you wanted, but they also have clip ons on the bottom of them. But if you're going to put new speakers in with a custom rear deck, I sure as hell wouldn't use those, I'd use the grills that come with the speakers. It would look a lot nicer and not be as restrictive to the sound like those stock covers are.

i see what u are saying. however, the speaker boxes in the rear deck are there because the speaker itself needs to be raised a little in order to clear the actual metal deck. if you remove the speaker enclosures and just mount the speakers on the new wood deck then try to put it in, the speaker magnets will not allow the deck to sit flush...so, i guess either re use the enclosures or cut some nasty holes in the factory metal deck, which i dont want to do but if i have to, i will
Hmm yeah I'm not quite sure exactly what you mean then, I do have a 2 door GTS. It could be different in the sedan haha. I'm just saying, what I might do in my car is take my rear deck out, and use it as a cutout and get some like 1/4in pressed board and remake my own rear deck and just drill the speakers into that with their own grills. So the speakers sit a little higher, and aren't covered up by the factory grills.
yea in the 4 door, the speakers are about 3 inches off the deck, their in little boxes, not necessarily grills. im gonna go do this this week sometime, ill post a DIY maybe or something
Good rear decks are very hard to find used. Cutting one would also be very hard. I took mine out to put in new speakers and it was so brittle i thought its was gonna crumble. Good luck.

i wouldnt even try to get a OEM replacement, but of you want a similar deck again, go buy some masonite, its very hard cardboard. it seems like this should be the closest thing to a OEM replacement (obv put felt carpeting on it)
the stock decks are really brittle though, especially if you have a rear window leak and the deck gets wet...it puffs up and crumbles in the sun. lol i dont have this prob, but ive def seen it in other rollas.
and, vutting one shouldnt be too hard, you just have to be somewhat skillfull with a jigsaw. just trace the old deck on a piece of 1/4" plywood and cut it out. im still thinking of what i should do with the placement, should i leave the 2 5.25's in and just add a 6x9 in the middle?
You got the right idea xxgmsmgxx89 but, dont put a 6x9 in the middle :-p. If you cutout the wood and make your own deck like you're saying, you should be able to fit some 6x9s in there without cutting the metal at all. Atleast I'm pretty sure you can. Shit, right now my car has 6.5in old pioneers mounted in the stock location just fine, I think all they did was drill new screw locations. But yea anyway, your best bet is probably some good sounding 6.5's. Or if you really want, you could find an old 6x9 somewhere and try to make it work, then buy some nice speakers once you know it does.
