GTS gauge cluster

Quick Q - the 88~89 GTS tach/speed cluster should be the same as one from the 91 year correct? Trying to track down some wiring ghosts.

I think so... not sure on that one, the SR5 is different from the GTS due to the redline diffs, the GTS not sure.

they're different visually but wiring is identical sr5 vs gts. My sr5 is a 90 and my gts gauges are from an 88.

Ya I'm just wondering about the GTS 88-89 gauge cluster compared to the 90+ model years. I'd assume they are the same but since the dash and engine wiring harnesses are different I'm just wondering.

Background, I changed the engine AND dash wiring harnesses in my 91 gts to one from a 89 (because that is the year the motor is from) but now the battery and caution light stays on, and the voltage gauge reads zero which tells me the alterntor is not charging. Also, I have no dash lights when the headlights are turned on and the daytime running lights/fog lights don't turn on ever, but did before.

Now before the swap, a while back, I had these same issues and changed out the alternator cause it was bad and it fixed these issues. Some basic testing has told me the new alternator is still charging but I still have to bench test it to be sure. Just seems weird that the new alternator would go bad with zero hours on it just from changing the wiring harnesses. Yes I inspected and checked an rechecked the 89 harnesses before I put them in. It came from a running car so I don't see how it would be bad.

I think these alternators have some weird diode packs in them, could it still be charging but not sending a charge signal on the charge wire that goes back to the dash area?

Anyway, I know there are a few differences in the 89 and 90 up wiring and I didn't change the body harnesses out but they appear the same.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm bench testing the alternator this week.

Ok fixed the lighting issues and voltage gauge, it was an unrelated issue to my previous Q's.

Everything is working, voltage gauge shows voltage and the alternator is charging.

Issue, the little battery light and the caution, (light beside, exclamation in a circle) always stay on. Any idea what this could be indicating??

The daytime running lights don't work. Does anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram showing the daytime running lights??? 89 GTS
