1989 Toyota Corolla does not qualify for Cash for Clunkers

1989 Toyota Corolla does not qualify for Cash for Clunkers. I looked it up under a new program to get people to get rid of old cars and buy new ones.

http://www.cars.gov/

http://www.cashforclunkersfacts.com/...n-cars-program

the gas mileage estimate for this model is 22 mpg average by their guidelines.

Is it any surprise that the government is only helping those that made stupid decisions?
(Buying a low MPG vehicle.) Those of us that made smart decisions don't get help.

The government takes money from the smart & hard working people and redistributes it
to the lazy & stupid. I guess if there's enough lazy & stupid people, that will make sure
the politician gets reelected.

It's a pretty stupid plan. Anyone read this note?

"The vehicle that you are trading in is required to be destroyed. Therefore, the value you negotiate with the dealer for your trade in is not likely to exceed its scrap value. The law requires the dealer to disclose to you and estimate of the scrap value of your trade-in vehicle."

Just another WASTE of mine and your tax dollars.

So stupid, required to be "destroyed" lol. Right. I'm sure if somebody traded in a Ferrari it sure as hell wouldn't be destroyed.

the AE92s are probably up there in gas mileage if not better than a lot of today's so called misers, which is probably why they're not scrapping them.

part of it has to do with how they find the fuel mileage amounts..... it changed just a few years back because marketing and R&D had figured out ways to make test cars have much higher than actual MPG.....

I totally agree!

Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing this.

In regards to the thread, edmunds wrote an article about this very same issue on their web-site.

I think it's worth a read; http://blogs.edmunds.com/straightlin...-a-junker.html
