Lighter Relocation

Is it just me, or is the ashtray/lighter in a really bad place? I always have a bottle of water with me (or in these pics, fast food drinks lol they're both water tho) because when i want to charge my phone/smoke a butt using the ashtray, i cant use the cupholders. So, i decided to move the lighter so i can at least use my cupholder and charge my phone at the same time. All i did was clip the wires from the back of the lighter, took the lighter apart (its in about 4 pieces). All i used was the metal insides, the actual lighter. I dont have a hole saw big enough to make the right size hole to fit the entire lighter assembly. But i just ran some extra wire from behind the original lighter location, spliced it off and ran it to the back of the original harness. I dunno, it took about 4 minutes to complete, i used some thick speaker wire to run for the new location. Im pretty sure the cap I used to put the lighter in was for power mirrors, but i aint got em lol this is super ewasy to do, and it kinda reminds me of my Saab...even tho the key is supposed to be there, not the lighter

I'll agree with the center stack not being too well planned, although I'm just happy these cars have cup holders given the years.

Your modification looks pretty skookum.

lol yea, nice little modification. I never even use my cigarette lighter for anything. I do have power mirrors though so I couldn't even do that mod haha.

I quit smoking... it worked.

I do like the placement for charger purposes though, looks great there.

thx. if you want to do it, use a hole saw (which i didnt have) thats the same size as the white piece around the metal...that holds the light ring. if you want that look, i suggest you go that route. i just drilled a little hole and used a grinding bit on my drill to make a hole big enough to fit the lighter. then, theres tabs (if you dont use the white plastic) on the metal lighter than you can bend out toi secure it to the plastic cover so it wont pull out when you go to pull the charger out.
