Soooo my car went on 2 wheels yesterday at moderate speed around a corner. Does this mean i need supsension work? i couldnt believe how much the car leaned around that corner, it was freaky lol i swear, the front right corner of the bumper hit the ground, i was looking at the ground from the driver's seat through the pass. window....pretty scary
Holy crap lol, sideways in a Corolla, how fast were you going? And yeah stiffening up that body should help a ton, but it sounds more like you might have something else actually wrong. Possibly struts. :p
i was prolly doing 45, ur supposed to take it at 30, as per the road sign, but ive definately taken this traffic circle at well over 50 mph in a 1995 Buick Century V6...that was not nearly as dramatic. i had to jerk the car in the opposite direction to get it to go back on 4 wheels lmao i think i should get some stiffer shocks, cuz when i turn left, for instance, the left side supsension loves to travel all the way up and the right side dives all the way down and vice versa. i feel like im going to tip a lot more than i used to, this car's always been a lil soft in the corners but now...jesus. my budget minded ass thought about some replacement shocks, would that cure the dive ? (if not all, some of it) or should i get some sportier pieces? whats an economical choice?
I doubt you pulled both wheels off the ground...... in order for that to happen you would have to:
1) be on a very hard bank that banks in the opposite direction of the turn
2) be on neither the gas nor the throttle
reason for this is because of weight distribution.... it's common at auto-x's to see cars lift rear inside wheels because of weight dynamics (vw golfs are notorious for this).....
actually stiffening up the chasis would only compound the problem..... a soft/tall suspension will allow for tons of travel (think of a lifted jeep going around the corner... it will have tons of sway but will not pull the wheels off the ground unless it's going WAY too fast) while keeping all 4 wheels on the ground. A low/stiff suspension will actually do the opposite -- if you corner hard enough you have a higher likely chance of pulling wheels off the ground (if the outside wheels don't have much travel then the chasis has to move the weight, not the suspension).

well i definately had the rear tire completely off the ground, the front left tire was just about of, the steering wheel got real heavy pressure coming from the right side...i was coasting, not braking or accelerating, and i just readjusted my tire pressure to 31 psi all around. w/e im prolly gonna flip it b4 i get new shit for it lol

Wow! I have a 91 sedan and I take sweeping turns at twice the posted speed. Car never moves. Solid as a rock. These cars are known for their handeling. Your struts must be shot. Be carefull. You roll in that car and they will have to bury you in it, LOL.
i know. yea, the roll is way worse than it was 6 months ago. the handling still is [pretty tight, i raised tire pressure to 34 all around last night...i think i have a slow leak tho, but as of right now it feels better. the susp is def gonna need work, the suspension components (minus the shocks) are all original. granted, i only have 52,400 miles as of right now. is this something that can be fixed with a general tool box? (sockets, hammers, ect). i need to get spring compressors or what? i think ill get some struts this or next week, a new tach gauge cluster is next though. lol
I think you need to take your car to a driving school put on by a local car club......
trying to take corners fast in a FWD not on the gas or brake (or changing from gas to neutral or gas to brake) is a bad thing..... don't hurt yourself or anyone else out there.... do the smart thing and learn how to drive your car right.

eh it dont mean i cant drive FWD, ive only ever owned FWD...ie, 1994 SHO with over 400 whp. i just coasted while turning, its not like thats how i drive when i drive spirited. i was like yo, look @ how much roll i have cuz my friend was on the phone with me (i have bluetooth in my rolla now) drivin behind me an i let go of the gas and the shit almost tipped he he so u guys think its the struts?
also to get those off you would need mcpherson strut spring compressors. The job isn't too bad, just a little time consuming. Also it helps to have either an impact or a good breaker bar for those bolts on the suspension.
also it helps to use decent spelling, puctuation and grammar on a forum, you can't hear tone in text so reading what you write can be hard to follow.

I'm sorry, but I just find this comment hilarious.
It's a Corolla, not exactly a nameplate that's synonymous with handling prowess.

It would make everyone's life a lot easier around here since more people actually would be able to offer useful advice rather than spending all their time trying to understand these internet ebonics speak that is so popular these days.

Must be my $25 tires/ 155/70 13's, lol. True, car handels great. I have put on the front and rear suspention and a strut tower bar from a GTS. I was gonna put on the GTS rear disc brakes, but they wanted too much for them. When these tires wear out I might get something better, but these tires work great and the MPG is outstanding.
I would look for a tortion bar issue this much body roll can only be allowed with the tortion bar unhooked or totally warn out..Look at the connectors on both sides,Good luck..Dave
