Find a large, relatively empty parking lot on level ground. Put the car in neutral.
Try pushing it with the wheels at full lock and you should be able to isolate
where the noise is coming from. Most likely something on the knuckle
assembly (rotor, dust shield, wheel, etc.) is coming into contact with a part
of the car not attached to the tie rod (control arm, inside of wheel well.

If you're CV joints were bad, you'd know it at angles well before full lock.
For me, it clicks when turning it at > 30 mph (medium angle turns).

CV Axles when they get bad enough will make a loud "clicking" sound when you turn. You usually don't hear it when you're going straight unless it gets really bad. The easiest way is just look under the front of your car and see if the boots are torn open on the left or right side of your car, and see if there's grease all over the place (usually on the boot or inside of the front wheels).

My car does that too. The dealer I bought it from (who owns a '91 Corolla just like mine, and who I know to be dead honest) said that that's just what they do. It's not an unusual noise. He showed me his when I asked him about it and his did the exact same thing. So, unless all three of our cars (yours, mine, and my dealers) have all developed the same problem, I think it's pretty normal.

*EDIT*: I didn't notice the 'severe scraping'. Depending on the severity of said scrape, that might be an issue. Mine makes an audible but not too frightening scraping noise at full turn.

I actually just replaced my passenger side CV Axle on Saturday. It was pretty easy, only cost me $62 for the Axle and like a half quart of 80-90 or something. :-p
