4agze into 89 corolla all trac sedan?

I'm just curious if anyone on here have swapped a 4agze into a corolla all track sedan. Mine has a manual transmission and is a 1989 model. If so how much did it cost , parts needed besides engine and what is involved in doing it. In other words does it bolt in with existing engine mounts. I know there would be wiring involved but how much?. Any info appreciated. Thanks in advance

nobody did it

AFAIK, theres a notch on the block that you need to grind (if you want the transfer case to fit), other than that, nobody know anything because nobody did it

If I remmember correctly its the location of the super charger that makes this impossible, it hits the trans. And yes like stated above there is a notch that has to be ground out of the block to clear any swap into alltrac. I have seen some swap in silvertop or blacktops but never a gze.

Here's a silvertop into ae95.

it's been done before, I have seen an AE95 wagon with a GZE in it, but this was either somewhere in the islands (Jamaica I think) or New zealand, can't remember. Looks like the SC was dropped for a turbocharged/FMIC setup. There really is not much info on this setup, you can probably find more info on 16V or 20V 4AGE swaps into these cars.

some of the pics are at the bottom of the AE92 pics section over at 4age.net (NZ site) and I think his email address is there too.

Thanks for the quick responses. I dont plan on doing anything anytime soon. Its just for future reference. I'm thinking a 4age is probably not worth the trouble of swapping since it doesnt make all that much power and torque is the same. How much does the 20 valve go for? Isnt there rare since they are jdm only? Seems like turboing the 4afe will be the easiest and best bang for buck. What do you guys think?

you'll get more easily the parts with a 4A-GE(and that counts also for the turbo)

the 4A-FE block is not that strong

but at first, i think that you'll be better learning how to control the car first, that car can be a little vicious when pushed to the limit, even with the 4A-FE

then dont push it. this is a corolla, and a 4wd one at that...adding a small or medium size turbo would be nice, i just read in a thread 5 min ago that someone had a 90 or 91 4A-FE with a turbo pushing 165 or 170 hp to the wheels, and the car has 150,xxx miles on it. he said it still runs smooth even since it's been boosted since (i think) January. ill edit with the thread I read this in.

that said, i think you should go for it, eventually. im thinking of doing this myself as well. only when the budget allows hgowever its maaaad money to get a turbo for a car that doesnt usually get turbos or arent exactly "tuner friendly". everything has to be fabricated custom it seems, and that costs $$$

Yeah i would like to do something like that in the future when the motor goes. Hopefully not anytime soon. What about a 7afe swap. Mechanically it should be just drop in right? As far as electrical what has to be done?

i'm not sure about it, since the block is based on the 2nd gen 4A-FE, not the 1st GEN

As far as I can tell 1989 was the ONLY year for the all-trac sedan. I have one. and also have a 4agze. the location of the supercharger occupies the same space as the vacuum locking differential in the all-trac. so it wont fit without relocating the sc. which wouldn't be easy. i'm considering the blacktop or a 4agte. have you done anything mods yet to your sedan?
