You won't really notice a difference if you switch to synthetic unless you also switch weights (and even then you're unlikely to notice anything). Synthetic's benefits are overstated most of the time. It is definitely higher quality than conventional oil but, if you change your oil regularly, you won't see those benefits. Synthetic lets you change the oil at longer intervals which is a plus for some people.
I (sometimes) put synthetic oil in my MR2 Turbo because it is subjected to much harsher conditions than my other cars. I can't justify the cost on the other cars. They get dino oil.
I recommend running the lowest "cold" weight oil that's available (thus my 0-30/5-30 suggestion above). You want it to flow well when you first start the car up and 30W when the oil warms up should give you good flow and pressure.
5W-30 Mobil1 Fully Synthetic from mile 0000001. 4AF, 237700+ miles, the motor is still smooth and the only thing under the hood that never had problems.
whats best for like North East climate? hot in summer, cold in winter...im running 5W 30 conventional oil they throw in at the gas station that does my car...should I get something better, like Royal Purple or Castrol Syntec? i was told by some random person that if you put Royal Purple in an older car that it's actually bad for it...i dont have any clue why it would be, if it's better oil.
