Since I got my Rolla in Feb, I've been getting SLAMMED with insurance premium (at least to me). I pay 320/Month USD. Is this high or not? Im 19, have a squeaky clean record and my car is red. Does this seem high? I live in NY, but not the city (thank god). Any pointers? anything i might have missed? I know i dont have Comp/Collision, and all my liability is at 0 or Minimum. I hate paying so much freakin money for a car that only cost me 200 bucks Im using Hartford Insurance (whatever that is)

damn, that's as much as I was paying on my turbo RX-7 when I was 18 and had a totaled civic on my record.
I would get a quote from a different insurance company. try progressive.com

I'm not sure about NY but here as long as you're a full time student you can stay on your parents policy, if thats an option for you. I'm not sure if you would still be eligible at 19, I did it at 17, a program called teen smart, pretty annoying but give up about 4-5 hours of your time and ~$90 for the disks and it cut my rate considerably. but I'd say look around some because my friend with two totalled cars on his record(both of which he was found at fault for) isn't even paying that much.
You are a male, less than 25, unmarried. You are in the highest risk category.
Where you live might be a factor too.
If you can be on your parents policy, that would be the best way to go.
Here in North Carolina they haul new drivers over the coals, but each year of no accidents or tickets gets a reduction of rate. After three years it gets down to normal. But then that's normal for a unmarried male under 25, which is still pretty high.

$300+ a month for a corolla is just plain stupid. Look for a new insurance company, that's at least twice what you should pay lol, especially with a clean record. When I had my 92 Celica, they were going to charge me $120 a month from All State.. and I had a speeding ticket on my record, when I was 18.
aarrrgghhh these comments only piss me off more lol it's ok, i just went to progressive online and was quoted 189.97/Month, or like 1050 ish for 6 months. i asked them to call me, and they said as long as I was as accurate as possible on the information I provided, the quote is accurate (give or take a few bucks). Now, i just paid those a holes over at Hartford Ins 300 smackaroos yesterday, so about a week before my crappy policy is due again, im calling prog and switching...only question is, do they need to do a credit check or something? i wanna just switch and pay them. i dont want to have to go through all sorts of hoops. thx for the feedback, i never realized how much i was getting ripped off. it's funny though, when I first got this car, I was quoting around and was getting even higher quotes than that, hence why i went with these bastards lol
When you get a solid quote from Progressive, go back to Hartford and tell them you want to cancell, see what they say.

yea im gonna call Prog later and see if i can switch sometime this week. i need some money, bad lol they would refund part of my 300 bucks if i cancelled?
I am in the process of renewing my policy and it's ~$250 per 6 months for 3 cars (minimum coverage) and roadside assistance. My record isn't exactly spotless when it comes to speeding tickets or (not at fault) collisions.
I'm going through Geico and they've been fine so far (much better than my old coverage with Farmers). You can check online for a quote pretty easily.

Yes they should refund the amount you didn't use. They will take the percentage out of the premium that you paid. Or at least they are supposed to. You should be able to cancel at any time and only pay for what you've used.
[quote=Ghostyman;2849885] That sounds like a complete ripoff.

heh how do ya think ifeel? oh, and those quotes I said before when I was looking last time, was for my 1995 BUICK CENTURY lol they wanted that much money to insure that POS!!!
