Oil leak in piston ...help?

its a 1990 AE92 Redtop smallport and it burns oil. i looked in all the cylinders and they're all normal except for the first cylinder, its just flooded with oil. at first i thought it was the valve stem seals so i replaced specifically the 2 intake and 2 exhaust for the first piston. it still happens... so assuming that i installed them correctly what else could be the cause of this internal oil leak?

Did you replace the head gasket and have the head checked for cracks?

That would be my suggestion.

the head gasket was replaced before me by the mechanic who sold it to me. before that i replaced the headgasket myself he re did it because it had seized rings which i overlooked.

yea maybe the oil control ring is bad or wasn't installed correctly. yea the compression test will confirm that. or eliminate the possibility

compression checks out fine but i noticed the sparkplug is covered in oil as well... does that mean its leaking from the head down? if so then am i installing the valve stems wrong? or could it be something wrong with the head itself

so how's it running? is it hesitating upon throttle or acceleration? because this hapened to my 91 and it turned out that it was the valve cover gaskets leaking oil down into the spark plug tubes. this created arcing and improper timing since their was oil all over the plug. that's how I noticed the problem. I pulled the plug wire and their was oil all over it. so I knew it was leaking from the 2" oil seal that seals the plug tube from the oil in the valve cover from leaking down into the recessed tubes.

maybe if filled with oil when you pulled the plug out? like if the oil was on top of the plug and you pulled the plug, it would all go into the cylinder. so it would look like you had a leak but really it was just the oil that was ontop of the spark plug, that had already leaked from the valve cover gasket.

I would check that out as it happened to me. I noticed it when I was driving and started to loose power.

Surprisingly enough it does a 0 - 60 of 9 seconds right now on street conditions with horrible tires. its clearly pumping out a lot more low end and smoother high end then my bluetop ae86. i removed the spark plug and wiped it off then reinstalled it and ran it, again it was covered in oil. the valve cover gasket is still good and theres no oil leaking from the side. it doesnt puff blue out the back but it does do this while it idles....
it seems like its a mix of oil and water... like the exhaust valve is just sucking out the oil

I recommend if u havent so. put the head gasket by the namr brand fel pro. is real good. Also the screw you should torque them 60 pounds of pressure,
and start torqing from the center.

I have put cheap head gasket brands and it doesnt last real long.

well putting a headgasket wont fix this oil leak, i believe the oil passages in this engine is closer to the second and third pistons then the first and fourth. the headgasket that was just previously done was replaced with a toyota oem gasket.

smallport and oil problems... same as mine, why am I not surprised.

I would probably rebuild mine, except I can't find anyone 4AGE literate around me that could do it, don't want to just go anywhere.

i remember reading about you having problems with your ae92 but cant quite remember the details. what was wrong with yours exactly? im contemplating selling my ae92 for under 1000 or so but everytime i get into it to move it around... i fall in love with the smallports power band all over again.

same problem as yours basically... well, mine started smoking oil at around the end of last year, the oil was fouling the O2 sensor and causing the car to run rich, it finally gave me the O2 sensor code but by then it was drinking the 5w30 water that Toyota uses like it was fine wine. Failed the emissions test badly so I decided to park it till I had the money to get it fixed or swapped.

I just recently found a possible replacement smallport, and I say possible because even though I bought it, I might still swap to something else better.

hmm why is that... is there something defective about the smallport head? my block was replaced by a good friend of mine who works at toyota and even he gave up on trying to fix this oil burning problem. right now i dont have the heart for it either i think its time for me to give up on the ae92 and just stick to my ae86 with the bluetop

I have a 1999 corolla 152000, and had a lot of oil in the #1 cylinder, everyone told me the world was falling apart, it turned out to be a seal related to the valve cover spark plug port 18 bucks for everything and no problems anymore took me less then a half hour to do Always work your way back from simple, to worst case in anything you ever need to trouble shoot.
