SR5 and GTS transmission interchangable?

I am wondering if a 5 speed manual transmission from a 1990 Corolla SR5 (off the 4AFE) will work with a 1988 Corolla GTS dual cam engine.

I'm looking at picking up an 88 GTS with a bad trans and I have a working 1990 SR5 trans in my garage.

I'm not worried about the gearing difference, just want to know if will work, I'm buying the car for my sister to get from A to B.

Thanks in advance.

the Sr5 transmission is longer, as such you will lose acceleration, but it will fit

just to clarify, the gears are longer, not the transmission itself.

C50 Series transmissions are interchangeable, I think they came right up to the 1ZZFE models, not sure if those specific ones will fit on the 4A motors though.

C50 - SR5/Sedan
C52 - GTS (some sedans/SR5s in other countries)
C56 - Silver/Black top 20V
C59 - 1ZZFE I believe and some AE101/111s?

C160 - 20V 6spd weaksauce
C60 - 00-up Celica GTS/Corolla XRS 6spd?, not sure if this is interchangeable though.

first gen silvertops had C52s, second gen silvertops had C56s

and I'm pretty sure ZZ transmissions have different bell housings, you'll want to stay away from them....

why is the C160 weaksauce??? or is that now a good thing? like "bad" :-P

I'm pretty sure the c52 on the silvertop was only there on the 1992 years..... like I've said, 1992 is a weird year.
