corolla 91 engine issues

I got a toyota corolla 91, automatic trans. the car has been off duty like around a year. Im tryng to repair it. A friend gave it to me so I really dont know what is the problem.

I replace the fuel pump cause the old one was full of rust.

Ok here goes. after I replace the fuel pump, put some gas, try to start the car and nothing. I reajsuted the ignition and nothing. I check if it was on timing and yes it was. the round gear on the valve head is at 12 a clock.
on the botom of the motor theres a point. Itrs point with point. so I guess is on timing.

at the end I manage to start the car but I had to keep starting the car, u know the starter was the on keeping the car alive. so when I think it sound good I stop starting and well the car just dies. the car does some big explosions and it is releave from the maniford and from the back of the valve head.

also when starting the car I move the ignition back and forth but nothingthe same thing.

I believeit can be a piston ring or something. I know the corollas transmition by heart but the motor well Not much,. hopefully someone can gime any advice thank. Im From Puerto Rico .

maybe you got garbage and rust in your fuel system, and need to flush it,,, maybe put more gas in the tank and disconnect the fuel line after the fuel pump. with no electonic spark near the fuel line turn the ignition on and let it pump some fuel out of the open fuel line to make sure it runs clean out of the line. If it has good flow and is clean reconnect the fuel line.

In your climate it might have had to much water/condensation in the fuel tank after sitting a long time..

does your fuel line have a fuel filter? How does that look?

Heres some new info of my problem.

I drained the gas tank, put new gas.
changed the filter of the gas also.

same results. The gas peddle need to be apllied all the way and I need to keep starting the car. the motor sound like is on but when I release the ignition key or the gas peddle or just one of both things the car just dies.

Could it be a car computer issue?

I heard it can be a electrical problem.

ohh and thanx for ur help, your the 1st in helping me out

Hey people I found the problem. it was the positive that goes to the fuel pump. the fuel pump gets to posites, 1 from when you start the car, after is started a 2nd pasitive opens, i believe it is from the alternator.
