89 all trac timing problem

good morning!

i have an 89 corolla alltrac, 1.6 with a 5 speed. It has 300K miles on it, but ran well until recently. I have a misfire in one cyl at low speed, at rpms above 2500 the engine smooths out and hits on all four cyls. Plugs appear normal. The problem is getting worse, under any load the engine misses, pings and I hear popping through the exhaust, but all symptoms go away above 2500 rpm! I have cleaned the egr valve and port, and checked for vacuum leaks. Changed the fuel filter. Rotating the distributor slightly seems to have little effect. Fuel mileage seems unaffected. I'm stumped!
