what kind of car/engine do you have?

it's probably right on the throttle body.

Does this help you a bit. This is a 4A-GE intake...but on you're 4A-F(E) it should be in the same place

89 SR5s don't have TPS's so either your looking at the wrong year's error codes or it means the throttle switch, which is on the carburetor somewhere... I forget which one it is though. it's one of the things with a wire(s) going to it :-P

That's the carb version (engine code 4A-F )

That doesn't need an TPS because it doesn't even run an ECU.
So no, it's not there.

What's the problem that made you want to replace the TPS anyway?

it's a California model, he does have an ECU, that's what gave him the error codes.

I have an 89 factory service manual in my garage, I'll go check the codes in it later today.

ya that is very strange, these are the codes i got.

31 Vacuum sensor
No signal at Vacuum sensor (PIM)
Vacuum sensor to ECU

41 Throttle Position sensor
No signal for 0.5 seconds or more at ignition ON. (VTA)
TPS
ECU

and this is where i got the codes from http://www.troublecodes.net/Toyota/

maybe it was wrong?

Weird yanks with those strange emmision things

Maybe the codes are incorrect because they are ment for the EFI engines?

ok, so I looked them up and it turns out 41 is the throttle switch.

31 is a problem with your vacuum switching valves' signal. these are the 2 valves that sit in the top middle of your firewall.

the throttle switch is tricky to find. if you look at the last picture you posted, it's right bellow where the fuel line meets the carb (with a banjo bolt). it should just be a little plunger thing with a wire coming out of it.
