Going ahead with 4wd to RWD conversion

My front right CV joint is stuffed so changing the CV boot didnt help (the boot was originally spilt).

So i decided to somehow disconnect the front CVs while leaving them still plugged in to stop the oil coming out, and pressing the center diff lock button so that its locked. if that doesnt work im going to weld it.

Going to do this when the very noisy knocking CV dies.

why dont you get ae86 front suspension and do a rwd conversion proper

also it kills front wheel bearings if you dont have a CV axle in the hub

why don't you just sell it and buy an ae86 or a cheap old nissan 240sx?
I'm really not getting this whole need to convert a car to rwd when it will likely just ruin the car and give you no benefit.

Why would it ruin the car?

And where i live an AE86 or 240sx/Sylvia all start at around $6000nzd.
Everybody uses them for drifting and they cost heaps.

If I locked the center diff it shouldnt wreck the bearings would it?

Amongst other problems, such as you'd get 70% of the power going up front and without any contact to the road, I dont know what the transmission would think about that.

Do it properly or dont do it at all.

I think it's a viscous coupling isn't it? they don't have any wear parts except for the fluid itself.

it'll wreck the bearings in the front hubs because there will be nothing holding them together. you need to either put just the CV tulip peace in there or put a big bolt in it to hold the bearing together.

A bolt doesnt help in keeping the dirt out. This whole thing sounds to me like a catastrophe in progress.

if it's the right sized bolt with a correct sized washer it'll keep the dirt out just as well as the end of a CV axle will

either a haynes manual or the FSM (I can't remember which) actually recommended a bolt if you have to move the car with axles not in the hubs.

like i said here, do this, then your engine will face the right way, get an AE86 rwd tranny and you should be good to go,unless you need to shortent the driveshaft or something

the transmission won't fit in the transmission tunnel...
