lighting question.

thanks for all the answers to my last post about the transmission dipstick. i tried searching my next question, but the search only opens a blank page. i've noticed that my license plate lights aren't coming on. i checked both of them and the left one was black, so it was blown. the right one looked ok. would one bulb being blown prevent the other from coming on? i would think they worked independently... recap: 1990 toyota corolla

Check your ground connections for the license plate and tail lights. Make sure that they aren't corroded or loose. Check inside the bulb sockets also for white deposits, clean with scotch brite or sand paper.

some times they blow and don't turn black, I wouldn't be surprised if they're both blown.

They both can be blown. Blown bulbs can still even work I've had many cases where a customer needs a new bulb, then when I go to touch it, it lights up. Then the customer comes back because the bulb was knocked out again... The filament in any bulb is like a thin thin skinny spring. Shock any filament bulb and the broken filament may complete the circuit again until it knock loose.

Both bulbs can blow at once. But they should work independently unless there's a wiring short of some sort some where. Which is too common for my tails...
