Inside and outside door handle doesnt work

Both my inside and outside handle of the rear right door doesn't work on the corolla. I'm guessing the rod is disconnected but i cant take off the inside door panel if the door is closed. Anyone of you guys run into the problem on the AE92s?

For both not to work my guess would be the latch is broken or seized. Happened to my jetta so I just replaced the entire door because I had to cut them off.

Hoping someone else has a better suggestion how to fix this.

I'd say because the inside door panel is just a piece of hard card board and easily replaceable and cheap in $, cut that in the location where you can squeeze your hand/arm into the door to grab the rod/ latch and open the door like that... instead of cutting the door...

The rear door on my 90 Sedan did not open when I got it. I was able to remove the screws and pop the panel plastic clips off. Then I lifted up on the door panel just enough to get my arm in. Once I got the door open the panel comes off easily. The little plastic thing that locks the rod to the handle broke. It would not stay engaged to the rod. I used a electrical wire tie to hold the rod in place. No more problems. Hope it helps.

I fixed this same exact problem last night! Take the inside dooe handle out. Stick your finger right behind the door panel and feel around for the rod that you pull on to open the door. It is there, just feel around and you'll be able to pull on it to open the door.

I too thought the rod fell off because I didn't see it at first. It is there! I installed the new inside handle I got and the door operates now.

Update: the inside door handle didnt work because right before the outside handle broke, the child safety lock was engaged. I simply used a screwdriver and shoved it in the inside door jam and popped the lever. After opening the door and removing the inside panel, i found the problem. The plastic clip that connects the rod to the outside handle broke off. Going to the recycling yard today to find the little white clip.

The next piece to break will be the plastic piece that holds the little white clip. I had 3 broken ones. I went to am autoparts on ebay and bought new ones. The plastic handles breaking is a common things.
