Green or red? The Geo has straight water in it right now. I know cars these days are using every color in the rainbow it seems. My Z28 uses the Dex-cool which sucks! So what does the 4afe require? I'm assuming green since my Geo was made in 92, but I want to double check.

Modification: Changing something to what you thought it should have been from the start!
Seems like every automaker has their own mix. I just buy OEM toyota stuff. It's red but not the same as Dex-Cool stuff. I do however have Dex-Cool in one of my corollas. No problems yet.
It takes regular green coolant. Nothing special. Toyota dyes their coolant red from the factory but I think they only started doing that in their newer cars, and it's still the same as green coolant. Now dex cool is the shit GM used in most their vehicles for a while, but it's pretty crappy, it was supposed to be a longer lasting coolant but all it did was last longer and become crappier over time as well. Anybody who still has dex cool, it wouldnt hurt to change over to "extended life" which is basically the replacement of Dex cool and it's pretty much what all the newer Fords use. But if your car came with green, use green only.
Actually the toyota stuff uses hybrid organic acic technology (HOAT) as a corrosion inhibitor whereas the traditional green stuff uses inorganic inhibitors such as silicates, phosphates and/or borates. HOAT does contain some phosphates but not to the level of the green stuff. My 92 pickup came from the factory with red/pink stuff so at least since 92 it's been red.
Yea, I'm not really advocating one or the other, I think as long as you completely flush the system whenever you change types of coolant you'll be ok. My opinion is to stick with the kind that came from the factory. Actually at the moment, neither of my corollas have OEM type, at least until I flush them. One has green type, the other has Prestone's version of Dex-Cool.
My corolla now has 200,000 miles on it and I've been using the Prestone 50/50 or Walmart's Supertech 50/50 and no problems at all. Still original radiator. I change it every 2 years and it still appears very green and rust-free.
