AE92 4age headers in a 4af

hey
i know that the 4age headers don't actually fit onto the 4af head
why don't they fit? what will need to be done to make them fit? and is it worth paying like $50 NZD for a bit more noise and a gain of around 5-10 hp maybe not even that ?? im just looking for something to do it's beginning to dawn on me that im really jealous of all the other students at my school with turbed cars and i just want a lil more speed
any comments would be muchly appreciated
cheers
Greg

Not worth the money for something that doesn't fit.

Save up some money for a turbo setup if you're jealous of the turbo guys. Trust me, a header isn't going to make that jealousy go away.

A header is a other word for the exhaust manifold.
It collects the exhaust gasses from the different cilinders and directs them to the rest of the exhaustpipe(s)

Some people mount a different header because not all the headers are that efficient in getting the gasses as quickly as possible out of the cilinders.
Lenght of the pipes (the so called 'runners') and how they pair up can influence the efficiency en maybe even draw a few more hp's out of the engine. (In general, don't expected more than max. 5hp or so!)

you get more than 5hp out of a header if its tuned to that engine like most are.

OK, so i have bought a big port manifold for 10 bucks it's from a blue-top 16v ae82 so it should flow alot more nicely
the only big job is just getting it to fit hopefully it all goes well and it will with a couple of minor mods other wise i will have an exhaust manifold to hang on my wall lol
maybe i could find a blue-top head and put that on aswell but that would make it even more of a big job
but any way im thinking positively and im going to pick it up tommorow. it's a bargain which makes me happy
hope to hear from you all soon

Well first of all if you're talking about a 4AF that means it's carburated which also means it's not worth wasting money on trying to make it fast. And good luck turboing a carburated engine, too much work. And putting headers on it probably won't even do much if it does fit... don't waste your money. :-p

I'm laughing at created to burns post.

AS for you, you need to get your stuff straight, what you want to do with your car. First you wanted to turbo it with the 4A-F and then you went on to installing a silvertop and now you're back in square one.

4A-GE header flange is different size and the bolts dont match = it wont fit.

A good tuned header for a 4A-F or 4A-FE is pretty rare (or you would have to make it yourself)
Even for the 4A-GE they are pretty hard to find (I can't really say that pacesetter, OBX and such are tuned to the specific engine )

And even then...on a stock engine, just bolting a other header to it (even a tuned one) won't make that much of a difference.
(The company that makes the header or the guy selling the header will tell you otherwise off course...)
But my own experience is that you don't really gain that much from just swapping a header on these kind of engines.

When you do more work to the engine (porting, cams, pistons etc, etc) and upgrade the rest of the exhaust. Then you might benefit more from the new header...but otherwise...don't expect miracles

sorry flash for raging lol
umm, i have taken the top heatshield off the manifold and thank you toyota theres no bolt on bolt off down-pipe it's all been wielded closed

but what im going to do is find a down pipe from another 4age and see if it will match up to the manifold that i have and maybe take the hole exhaust system but i dnt want cats thats the thing cause that restricts the flow of things. oh and will all downpipes fit the bluetop bigport manifold, i think they might just want to clear that up aswell.
