Sorry in advance if there is already a thread about this I looked and came up with nothing. I've got a 5 speed 4afe corolla that according to the oil pressure light on the dash, is loosing oil pressure whenever I put the clutch in or am idleing at a light. The oil light will stay on unless my foot is on the gas when I have the clutch in and immediately goes off when the car is moving. I think it may be the oil pump going out (pretty sure it's the original and car has 205k). I really don't have time to replace something that isn't broken so I figured I'd ask if anybody else has had this issue before.
Yeah this is why I put the oil pressure and volt meter gauges in from a gts, gives a better idea of what that old ass motor is doing. I hate those idiot lights... Only time I get low oil pressure idling is when I am low on oil, but I would assume you've already checked the oil level.
Yeah I check the oil every couple of days, and the gts gauges are a good idea the lights realy are almost useless. That just might be my next little project. And the oil is new, I just changed it a week ago
I got a GT-S gauge from the junkyard and to my surprise it isn't just a simple plug in swap, the wiring connector is actually totally different. luckily for me it's the same as one of the gauge cluster plugs so I'm just going to go to the junkyard and get one from a normal corolla. you also have to re-wire a bunch of stuff, luckily the clock right next to it has all the stuff you need (like illumination and ground and such) you also need to replace your sending unit with one from a GT-S.

Turns out it was the opsu and not the oil pump. Looks like I'm gonna have to replace it with a stock one until I finally find a parts gts for sale or one shows up in the junk yard though
for the gts gauge you need the opsu from the gts as well. Yes the plug is different for the idiot lights but the wiring was easy, I just spliced into the speed and tach cluster for the wires I needed.
IMO with cars this old an oil pressure gauge and volt gauge are NECESSITIES. The volt meter is what saved me from driving back from my ex's house when the alternator went. Because even after it went the car finished the last hour of the trip and still ran fine, but I doubt it would have made the 2 hours home and I would have been stranded. Was surprising it made it with the lights and radio going. The oil pressure gauge has saved me when my headgasket went and I was SUPER low on oil and was unaware because I had drivin 4 hours straight
they fit in a stock location so it looks clean. Still shows you where the regular pressure is. Gives you a general idea of where it should be rather than the light come on telling you there's almost no oil pressure. For a daily driver they are perfect.
