I lost a lugnut on a wheel and went to autozone to just go get some new ones, but they didnt fit because the hole was too big and wouldnt fit the bolt. They were 14m-1.5. Does anyone know what the '1.5' is for, what I should be looking for, and where I can get ones that will fit properly?
the 12 is the size of the bolt, the x1.5 in metric is the pitch of the thread. meaning distance between center of thread to center of the next thread (peak to peak or valley to valley)
for reference, in standard thread the first number is again the size, but the second is simply the number of threads in one inch. for example 3/8 x 24

Totally correct but a slight clarification. 12 is the nominal outside diameter of the bolt in millimeters. Which is why the 14mm nut was too big.
Ok, there are a lot of places where the guy behind the counter doesn't know jack, both stores that I've worked at were included sometimes as well. but there is usually some kind of reference. Take advantage of the people there. That's why we're there, or at least those of us who know what the hell were doing....
superRA: it was in CAD, if it was by hand I wouldn't still be studying to be an engineer!

The inner diameter of the nut was too large, not the outer diameter. Ill go try a 12 though.
Yep, that's why nuts are labeled by the OD of the bolt that it fits onto. I.e. You pretty much won't be able to measure 14mm anywhere on that 14mm nut or yours reliably. So a M14 nut will have an ID bigger than the OD of a M12 bolt hence the sliding on and off.
