i noticed every engine swap is with a 5 spd.. anyone do any swaps with auto transmisson? i have an automatic now and would like to keep it that way, but i'd like some better power then the 4af gives.

5spd gives a bit more torque since it's more of a solid connection than an automatic which uses the flow of fluid. You have complete control when it shifts and all other goodies. And it's fun, IMO.

There are 4A-GE 20 Valve engines with automatic transmissions for sale on E-bay occasionally.

if they told you they can get decent power out of a 4af, they're lying and just trying to take your money. stay away.

Are you sure you want to use an automatic Corolla for bracket racing?
I doubt the transmission or the torque converter will give you the performance you want, even if you can squeeze "decent" power out of the 4A-F engine.

A 4A-GZE would be a better bet.
I don't know if those ever came with an automatic transmission.

yeah.. the guy ended up being no help what so ever, he had no idea that the corollas even came with carbs. so needless to say i'm back at square one. i'll probably just do a silvertop swap at this point, it seems to make sense money wise, and it's been done before. may as well make it a 5 speed well i'm at it. i was looking to do soething different, but i guess theres not many options with this car.
