driver's seat jammed in one position in 1989 Corolla SR5. Manual seat. Will not move forward or back. Does it need to be unbolted to fix? Maybe some piece of metal is broken in there jamming it so it will not slide? The spring lock/unlock mechanical thingy system seems to be working fine.

I remember seeing a wire that goes from one side to the other that attaches to the release lever on the underside. Yours is probably broken or come unhooked. If not that try hitting with some spray lube.

Yup, that cross-wire was missing on mine. Seat won't move without it, as it works the latch on the side opposite the lever. I ordered mine from the dealer, it was under 5 bucks

Shit, mine did the same thing, I just used Dykes and a metal coat hanger and bent it to shape nice and tight. Fixed the problem. I've done it on other cars as well. Just unbolt the seat and flip it over. Easy cheese.
