Hello, I have a 92 corolla dx with a 5-speed manual tranny. Ever since i got the car (has 127K miles) shifting it into the different gears is not as smooth as i belive it should be, especially into second. It takes more effort to pull it into that gear then any other. It also increases my shift time which is quiet annoying. I was wondering if there was a possible adjustment or fix for this (one friend of mine suggested it may be the syncros?) Thanks in advance!

Just check your clutch to make sure it disengages properly, fluids ok and what not before deeming the syncronizers.

I will check the fluids, the clutch is brand new as of 5K miles ago.

c5X(c50, c52, c56 etc) series trans just by design the shifting is notchy

I heard a "fix" is using a particular type of fluid that helps smooth out the shifts, redline something fluid, maybe someone can elaborate on that. It's something you might have to live with unless you want to overhaul the transmission, I read somewhere that in Toyota's c5X overhaul kit they address some of the issues. I've never overhauled one so I've never had the chance to compair the overhaul kits components vs origonal components.

I think just from its design it might end up feeling notchy, it might just be how the shift linkage/rods/forks operate that makes it feel notchy. If you have one of the c5x trans out of the car and shift it by hand even then the shifts seem a little sudden and harsh but a bit of a struggle to engage.

Check your linkage on the transmission, and your shifter cables for wear and play.

I would check the cables, tranny linkage and the bushings in the shifter. Mine feel the same as well and worse cause I have a short shifter

Yes. A short shifter will emphasize any shifting problems.
