I sent mine to Dr. Tweak because I was busy at the time and didn't want to deal with it

a week or two later I got it back and it started right up first try.

Sent it to Tweak, everything was perfect, I highly recommend sending yours if you are doing a swap.

Won't happen in Cali with the 20v as they were never released in north america. As I understand from my readings on the subject the engines donor car has to be of a newer model year than that of the recipient vehicle, meaning that the only choice would the aw11 4agze but for that to work your car would have to be a 1988 and the mr2 donor would need to be a 1989.

negative. as long as the NEW motor being swapped in is THE SAME YR or NEWER then the CHASSIS you can legally have it in California. and btw this has been done more then twice. i recently spoke with a BAR rep and he states as long as you have the exhaust mani and cat from the donor car your safe. I have a 89 ae92 gts and i just picked up a 89 mr2 s/c. i will be starting up my project soon and i will document this for anyone interested in a CALIFORNIA LEGAL 4AGZE SWAP!

Well I wish you luck on your project, you should start a thread here to document it. Here's a smog legal gze swap into ae86.

Dunno about cali but once I all the correct components, maf, etc. the 20v basically ran at the same smog specs as the original 4age. The tech doing the test didn't fail for the visual inspection (egr, etc.). We did have to drill out the MAF and dial it back to pass emi.

This is great. i am actually doing the exact same swap, and my harness was cut in the exact places. The wiring is just too much for me, and i cant find anything about it.the car has been sitting in the backyard for months now. Its good to see that this problem can be fixed. i just sent an email to dr tweak myself. seeing your story kindof gives me hope, haha congrats.
