AE92 Something Else...

For the past few days, when I get in my car in the morning (cold start) and I turn the key to start, the car clicks (like the battery's dying) but all the idiot lights run their test and my stereo turns on, but the car does nothing...this morning, i had to turn the key on and off about 20 times to get it to start...then i turned it off then it started right up. Any ideas what's happening? starter is bad? Thats what im hoping it ISNT

or possibly bad battery connection? I bought a ghetto clamp from Sears Hardware that seems like it was made out of putty...It's all melted and the connection is barely hanging on...this just occurred to me. ill change the battery positive clamp today on my lunch, to see if that's whats wrong

Deffinitely first thing always make sure you have good battery connections like gms said. If there's any corrosion around your battery try cleaning it off, even disconnect the terminal and clean the connector plus the terminal it self with a wire brush and some battery cleaner. Then tighten everything back up and try it again.

If no go, then could possibly be starter.

The replaceable solenoid terminals on the starter are probably shot . Here is a link on how to do it on a Tacoma. The procedure is the same on the corolla.

yeah most likely the contacts. I had the exact same issue with my car. If you leave it long enough eventually the turning the key a bunch of times won't do anything and if it's a standard you will have to push start it. Was easy, and minus the toyota parts guys in barrie being idiots and trying to sell me a new started convinced you couldn't repair mine... so they sold me the ae101 contact which I had to modify with a pair of snips everything went well.
