AE92 Burnt out clutch

hi
was driving around town today and was on a slight incline.
Something really weird happened i took off and my foot was off the clutch completely and i was sitting at 5k revs but the clutch was still engaged and it wouldn't disengaged and when i stopped i smelt the tell tale signs of burning and i knew straight away that it wasn't my brakes opened my bonnet and put my face right to wear the clutch is based and knew it was definitaly the clutch .
it still engages and disengages and i can still drive it hard but will it still be ok to drive and should i just put up with the smell until i can get a new clutch or will i even need a new clutch. cause we are all paranoid about stuff wrong with our cars well i am n e way
thanks in advance
Greg

Clutch is probably slipping and/or almost gone, or the belleville spring. How long has it been?

Personally, I would see if it's just hydraulic problems that's not completely disengaging the clutch or getting stuck somewhere. If I knew the clutch has a lot of time in the car (60k Miles+), maybe then I'll change it out. I wouldn't drive it unless it needed to go to a shop or something. If the clutch is bad, you risk damaging gears which is unnecessary money going to waste.

I would change it as soon as possible. unless the clutch slave cylinder is seizing it's not a hydraulic problem.

the longer you let the clutch slip like that the more damage it will do to the flywheel if it's not toast already...

driving on it is also just asking to get stranded somewhere.

well actually other hydraulic problems can happen, to check just get someone to pump the clutch at varying speeds and then hold it for a minute or two, while you watch the slave piston if it acts normally in quick disengagement or prolonged disengagement then yes it is probably your clutch cover or disc you aren't going to destroy the flywheel but it will have to be machined

The throwout bearing could also be sticking on the input shaft.

The smell has subsided and it hasn't ever been slipping but it was just really weird that it didn't fully disengage on take off.
I have tried putting my foot down on the motorway in a high gear and it hasn't slipped.
i should really take it to my mechanic and get it checked out. it still drives fine it's not doing anything out of the ordinary and i wouldn't mind getting stranded cause i have 6 free call outs from AA so it doesn't bother me .
but im taking in your advice and have found a replacement clutch but i just found out the price for it now and im dumbfounded, $240 NZD thats $168 USD
im hoping it isn't completely fried,
it's still running fine and is driving fine no weird things changing gears. i might take it to a clutch specialist and see what they say.
thanks everyone i really appreciate it
Greg

If you think that's bad, wait till you see how much it costs you to have your mechanic replace it

it's usually about $700 said and done around here.

im a poor high school student that knows how to drive but doesn't know why the clutch didn't disengage.

don't need to worry bout a mechanic fitting it cause i know a guy his dad and uncle have toyotas and i said 2 boxes of beers for the installation of my clutch the guy said yea just need to see when they are free lol win lol i love contacts that know contacts lol.

I will put a side some time tommorow to go and show my mechanic, if i have screwed my clutch i will wait till the new year to get it fixed im going away on the 27th so the little beast rolla will have some time to rest and i will have money to afford the clutch and the beers lol.

im just gonna baby it until the 27th and be over with it lol. my new wheels for 2 weeks will be my mountain bike lol
thanks for everyones input and hope you all have a great christmas and a happy new year don't get too wasted on the eggnog.
