1989 Corolla AllTrac Wagon - RIGHT HAND DRIVE, From JAPAN!
I bought this car in August and I've fallen madly in love with it...
Unfortunately some dingle berry got in my way, and I've got some front end damage! =\
"The Man" has written off my car and given me a measly sum that doesn't equal its true value, I'm looking to find some parts, mainly the front bumper and everything involved with a total replacement of the front bumper, and head lights, as well as the grill between the lights...
My specific question: What year of parts will fit and from what NORTH AMERICAN sold Toyota's? I can visit some scrap yards around me and start making calls to ones that are farther away, but I need to know what range of parts I can use!
Later down the road, can I put a 6cyl engine in this baby? haha Its a little sluggish, but it EATS snow and slippery roads for breakfast, I really want to see if I can get it to a million KILOMETRES (for all you yanks! haha =D)
I've seen two variations of the wagon so far that almost look alike with different fronts. I think the years are about the same too, don't know much about the wagons...
Headlights from any 6th gen Corolla should fit the All-Trac wagon, but I'm pretty sure that the rest of the stuff you're going to have to get specifically from an All-Trac wagon. I think the bumper and grill are the same for all regions.
the Japan version is actually different..... it isn't even considered a corolla over there.... (on the tip of my tongue.... starts with a C)... I believe the front ends are actually slightly different....
You could, however, find an alltrac here and try to use the front end.....
**edit** it's a Carib....

Yeah this is where it gets kind of fuzzy for me. In my research, in Japan its actually sold as a Carib...However, *MY* car, says Corolla on the back window... I'm assuming it is a Corolla, and not a Carib. But you're right about your observation.
I'll get some pics of it.

yes, your car in Japan is the Toyota Corolla/Sprinter Carib wagons... in north america it was sold as the Toyota Corolla ALLTRAC wagon, front end parts are the same basically, interchangeable... unfortunately regular sedan and non-ALLTRAC wagon front end parts will not match up, so you will have a hard time finding parts.
Here is a list of things that arent interchangeable with the exterior on the alltrac and regular corollas. Hood, bumper, fenders, side marker lights. You technically can fit on the headlights and a regular corolla hood like I did, but it doesnt look right. Nearly 8 months later Im still driving with no sidemarker lights, bent up fenders, and cracked up bumper, plus a custom grill. All the junkyards either never heard of an alltrac, or assume all wagons are alltracs, so it makes finding things really hard. Ebay rarely has anything and the few things that pop up arent really for alltrac in the first place. Good luck out there.
Thanks for the info! I found a North American Alltrac DLX at a junkyard not too far away, the whole front end is in mint condition the guy says, and the bumper is matte black so I won't have to paint it!
Canadian inspection rules are a lot rougher than in Oklahoma, I'm guessing, because I wouldn't get away with driving for that long without marker lights! The cops in my city absolutely LOVE to pull people over and write tickets, we've even got those stupid cameras now!
So, I'll keep my eyes open for Alltrac parts and keep spares of everything to keep this car running, we just had another snow fall and everyone except me cares! haha

if you look at the N/A vs the Japan version, the headlight, side lights, bumper, front lights, and grille are easily noticeably different..... the hood and fender shapes are hard to tell due to color differences in the photos....

There is a red one here, Originally owned by an old lady with just around 100k on it. Ive offered to buy it should the owner ever decide to part with it. Its immaculate and a fantastic car. Should I see any parts in a yard, ill shoot you a post here.

Boost, may you RIP.
I can't really get a definite answer from anywhere in these forums that I've seen, so I'm going to go spend the afternoon taking that bumper off at the scrap yard and hope it fits, I guess.
I wish I knew who to ask that knew *FOR SURE*, but even toyota dealerships here refuse to comment on anything that wasn't built in North America.

the only thing I can think of that could be different is that the north american model will have a metal rebar behind it (safety standards) where as the japan bumper will not have the rebar and will probably be shorter, but it will still fit.
I saw an 1989 Corolla Alltrac wagon at the salvage yard yesterday (12-31-09). I was white and if I remember correctly, it had all the exterior parts in tact. If you need me to grab anything from the donor car let me know.

I won't repeat what others have posted; they are very knowledgeable and know their stuff.
But I will give you some resources to check.
The Toyota model number you have is AE95. In the Far East, Russia, and Oceania (Australia and New Zealand) these sometimes go by the Sprinter Carib moniker. Did you get your Carib from http://outbackimports.ca/wagons.html Outback Imports ?. If not they are the Canadian resource.
Check out:
For parts, check out: toyodiy.com and put in your vehicle information. You can get Toyota part #'s from this site. These guys are from Russia and claim to be able to convert Right Hand Drive Toyotas to Left Hand Drive Toyotas. The site used to have exploding diagrams but Toyota sued their ISP to get the images taken down. So, you may want to invest in a genuine Toyota shop manual.
Next you can use ebay.com, 1stToyotaParts or parts.com to put in those part numbers and get parts. Since you have an All-Trac, most generic Corolla AE92 parts for the body won't fit, but you can order those vehicle specific parts from these places, IF they still have them in stock. Some body parts still fit: I just went to the junkyard to get some door mouldings that fit the window; I pulled them off of a regular Corolla.
There is a AllTracWagon.net dedicated to All-Tracs, although there are only a few of us (57 members) so far. There is also Corolland.
