MAF Modification

Hello guys, I was wondering if anyone knew a link or webpage explaining how these MAF / Air Velocity Meters are modified such that I can undo any modification that may have been done to mines. I searched here, but unless it's buried in some thread, I didn't find anything.

Thanks

Yes, exactly like that. Thank you.

I've haven't been through your site after the redo, I should check out the rest of it.

I can tell that my MAF has been tampered with (and I flat out asked the prev. owner, he said he tried it and reverted back) and my hydrocarbons are a bit high according to the smog test. Its right at the max. I've changed plugs, cap and rotor so I suspect this might possibly be making it run a bit rich. Lastly I suppose the Cat could be going out, but I sure hope not.

depending on how it was tampered with it might just be better to go get another one from a junkyard.

cats are too expensive, you can get a cheap one from magnaflow for like $100

I'm assuming you meant "aren't too expensive"? Well anyhow, you haven't tried buying a Cat here in CA huh? The environmental natzis put some dumb regulations on Cats sold in CA. They end up costing double than ones sold for other states, if you can find one.

I would like to get an untampered one from the JY but the GTSs aren't too easy to come by these days. Will any MAF from a 4AGE work? Are there other cars' maf that will work?

I just went to that website you linked above and read the whole thing. So has anybody here tried that and had any good results? Moving the teeth a couple notches? Interesting idea.

Well, like I said in my tech article. I'm going to try it when the time comes. But I'm far from that, so I don't know yet if it really works. This mod is a bit of a rumour going around the internet.

But it shouldn't hurt to try it. You can always restore it to it's original position if you have problems with it or when it doesn't work for you.

Personally, I have my doubts...With a standard engine with no other work done to it, I think the engine might start to run a little rich.
With a engine with more agressive cams and running the original ECU and such, it might help a little, but I don't think you should expect wonders from this mod.
