1990 DX trunk lock

I did a search on how to replace a trunk lock on a 1990 corolla DX sedan trunk lock but had no luck. nothing in haynes manual. have new factory trunk lock-$75. There is a rod that runs to a plastic retainer clip mechanism on the old and new lock. Also, under the trunk lock cylinder (on inside of trunk) is a flat bracket which turns up on the right hand side into a 90 degree turn.
1)Can anyone shed any advice on getting out this trunk lock? old one won't turn at all- currently have trunk closed almost held with a bungee.
2)I was thinking to a)disconnect the linkage to that plastic retainer- think it might just slip out with long needlenose pliers. b)take the same long needlenose pliers and try to shift that bracket to the right from underneath the trunk lock.
3)Reverse what i did above, making sure lock is in correct position, and making sure I don't drop that damn bracket as it will get lost in the inside of the trunk.
Any advice appreciated!

It's very easy, I had to change mine because it kept failing to lock when I wanted to lock it...

With the trunk open:
1. You'll see a LONG U-clip. Pull it, take it out. It's the one with the red arrow.
2. The clip with the green arrow, it spins to clip/unclip off that rod. Turn it to unclip it from the rod, and the rod should be able to slide out of it.
3. Then the lock cylinder should come out, push it out.

If you have problems looking for replacement trunk lock cylinders with keys, go on eBay and search in 1988 Corolla or 1989 Corolla; they go for about less than $15-$20. There will be should be several trunk lock with keys for sale. Also the entire lock and key set for both doors, ignition and trunk if you want to stay with one key...

Hope this helps.

thought I would update one part to this. When I went to take out the long U-shaped bracket that slides under trunk lock, my long needlenose slipped and the damn bracket went all the way down to the bottom of the trunk. Had several magnets but not would work. most were too short. I did have one telescoping, long magnet -it was long enough- but it would stick to everything on the way down. If I had used my 9 inch needlenose vicegrips instead of regular needlenose pliers, I would have probably have been fine. Had a brain fart and forgot I had them. My only solution was to go to Napa-they had a very long flexible magnet, and here's the cool part. The magnet on the end is not exposed until you depress a button on the very top- this keeps the magnet from sticking to everything on the way down to retrieve lost parts. It was pricy, like $30 with the tax, but a nice too. But, if you are careful with that bracket and use vicegrips, you won't need a magnet. Uncle had shop do ignition switch as it stranded him one day. I did the trunk lock and now fixing to do the door locks. Some jap engineer let us down on the design of the locks.
