This is a placeholder for information regarding hunting idle problems in the 6th Gen Corolla.
Symptoms:
1. At idle, your car will rev from around 800rpm to 2000rpm rhythmically about once a second.
2. When your foot is coming off the throttle you feel a slight "lurch"
3. When driving in first gear, you feel the car accelerate by itself a little bit, about once a second.

First check: Check your coolant level. 60% of the time, hunting idle is caused by low coolant. Even if you do not suspect a coolant leak, or you have never had a problem with low coolant in the past, check your coolant level.
Fix: If coolant is low, fill with 50:50 coolant-distilled water mix. Start engine and drive until engine warms up. Shut off engine and let engine cool, then top up with more 50:50 coolant mix.

Second check: Check your vacuum hoses. 30% of the time, hunting idle is caused by a vacuum leak in any hose connecting to the intake manifold. Check obvious places such as the crankcase breather line.
Fix: Re-attach disconnected vacuum hoses or replace worn/leaking/kinked hoses.
