sad day for me and the rolla :(

hey guys, ive been a lurker here for a while now and decided to finally register. I'm an owner of a 1990 sky blue corolla dx auto but the reason i posted this was because i wanted to share the the bad news. tuesday morning i was making a delivery for my uncle in ontario and on the way back by the 10 freeway and euclid st the tranny grenaded on me and now im in the process of tearing it down to swap in another one. If any of you guys have any tips on the swap i would greatly apreciate it.

wanna go with a 5spd manual swap? When my differential went, it was either that or putting in the same kind of auto trans. I wanted a 5spd swap, already got the manual trans and related parts, so it's now a 5spd.

Swapping for the same, it shouldn't be that difficult. Ever done something similar?

I imagine swapping in a 4 speed auto wouldn't be that much more expensive if any and would probably pay for itself in gas mileage...

4 Speed automatics came in LE models. I'm not sure if the overdrive button would be a bit of work, I doubt it.

The differential in your transmission likely grenaded. Most 3-speed owners ignore the owners manual requirement to drain and refill the differential lube every X number of miles

got the tranny out this weekend with ease except that last dam bolt that holds the metal gasket to the transmission i had forgot to take it out and figured out an hour later that it was there lol...

heres some pictures of the carnage, by opening the case i found out that it was the pinion shaft that failed and the bearings that support it aswell as this one plastic gear wich i though was the speedo gear but it wasnt
