CV axle falling out

I replaced my left cv axle and it has come out of the transaxle...What could be causing this and how do I correct it? It's a 91 DX.

1. The splined portion that enters the transaxle should have a C-shaped ring in a groove on the end of it. If it's not there, then it won't stay in the transmission.
2. If the ring is present, then it may have not been pushed in far enough. I needs to be whacked with a mallet. Once it has been inserted completely, you should feel a "snap" or "click" at that point which is the C-Ring doing it's job to hold it in.
3. That's all I can think of for now.

The left side cv axle has always been a nutbuster for me everytime I go to take it out. Then when I manage to get it out, getting it back in is just as bad. Don't know why.

I say you didn't push it in far enough for the clip to clip in.

I think the axles I've been getting may be too short not letting the clip get seated. I had the parts house order a couple so that they can be compared and measured. Should be arriving later this afternoon and hopefully get this situation taken care of.
