1990 DX exhaust

Ok so I was checkin my exhaust yesterday cuz I need a new muffler, and I noticed the catalythic converter is bolted on the exhuast in the back, but the front isn't bolted on at all, just sorta pushed against the front...

This is supposed to be bolted there correct? Or moreless is it safe to bolt it there, cuz that's where my leak is in my exhaust

Don't quite understand.... The catalytic converter is behind the right-rear wheel?

The catalytic converter is normal located in between the two front seats just about.... except outside, under the car, shielded by heat shields that rust and rip easily by wind.

I wouldn't say any where but where it was designed to be is a 'safe place' to put the catalytic converter unless you can shield the heat like in the area designed for it....

I think he means that the back of the cat is bolted in while the front of it is only slid on to the down pipe. Right?
Yes, there should be some sort of clamp to seal the two pipes in that area. The cat must have been changed at some point because I believe that the cat was bolted in the front and back from the factory.

Ah ok, I he meant the placement of it lol

As far as I know, they're completely bolted on, not clamped or welded on.

Yea it's near the front of the car, completely bolted

A problem I found when I was installing a muffler, is the bolts are welded on so I couldn't replace them... I have the redneck fix (steel wire) on it atm but I know it won't hold very long...
