hey
im going to get some sort of header very soon and need a bit of help with them first of all will i need to get my car tuned specifically for the header
thats all i need to know
Cheers for any help
Greg
Though I have not changed a header on an ae92, from other ones I've done... Nope. Of course, assuming it fits perfectly and gives you equal or more performance.
the headers i want to buy aren't exactly headers because they don't go right under the car they are shorties not the longer version and they are custom made.
would they be fine for my car?
they are 4-1 not 4-2-1, i'm not always near 7000rpm so would i lose power in the lower rpm range?
i will have a 2" full exhaust with it aswell when i get the full exhaust fitted.
but aren't the stock manifolds 4-1 aswell??
should i just buy them they are $100 NZD ($70 usd) they came off a 5afe so maybe they will run better on my car idk?.
I don't want to be losing power at lower revs i want to be gaining power at lower revs but then again if the power ban is at 4000 onwards then that would be fine. right?
the stock manifolds are 4 2 1 because the early joining helps raise the exhaust gas temp levels at lower revs and thus increasing flow and pressure
4 to 1 is mostly for mid to high revs depending on how they are designed
$100 isnt much, but them being custom might mean they suck, or they could be good, we dont really know what was put into them, i didnt even see a pic in that link
the 4age 20v header flows really .The two outer bolt holes don't line up so they will have to redrilled. We used one on a 5afze (supercharged 5afe) with good results.
a lot of the Japan built headers are actually built to use the stock downpipe... good example was the VERY rare RS*R 4age FWD header I had.... it utilized the stock downpipe....
for ease of install, that would be your best bet.
you don't need any specific tuning for a header alone

ok cool
the headers that i have found don't use the stock down pipe but it goes under the engine which is good. it doesn't have a flexible piece but that will be welded on when i get the full exhaust system and when i buy them lol they are only $318 NZD ($224 USD). which is a bargain if you ask me.
thanks for all your help i really appreciate it
224 is at least 1/5th the cost of a silvertop, maybe you should think about other options before you jump on buying a header? Just trying to help, I understand how you feel though being young and wanting to modify this and that. A header isn't something that will adapt from one motor to another easily. Consider your options, learn, and research before throwing money at your car.
i have done my research
im only a high school it's a luxury to have a car and be able to drive it to school i just want to be able to have a rumble when i start my car so everyone will look lol.
the 4af is still a pretty quick motor for a carby it's held back some dohc vtecs in it's time it just needs to be a little bit quicker, and swapping in a 20v has it's ups and downs i could just buy a car with a 20v in it and be done with it i wan't something a lil more original with my own personal preferences in it.
I see the guy selling them still hasn't put up photos...I'm guessing that they're the same design as my aftermarket headers, but won't know until he puts a photo up. Was thinking about buying them myself just to re-sell at a later date.
