dumb question

I know I'm going to get noobed for this but I have a 91 corolla 5 speed. Not the sporty one, just the four door econo-box. Is this a age or afe? I was reading the engines thread posted in this section and it said G was twin cam wide angle 45 degrees. F is narrow angle about 22 degrees. How can I find out what it is?

Reason I asked is cause I have to get another clutch and autozone wants to know if its age or afe. After taking the transmission off I was told I'm "popping the clutch". I never spin the tires though so I don't see how I'm popping the clutch.

How long have you been on that clutch? If its the same clutch as the one you bought it with, then chances are the previous owner was popping the clutch.

However, you may be releasing the clutch to quickly without knowing it. Either way, nvm what they said about "popping the clutch". If autozone is asking over 250 for a clutch, hit the internet and get an aftermarket clutch.

I got mine from Pepboys.... A brand called LuK. They're pretty good, had them for almost two years now with maybe almost 15k miles. Forgot how much I paid, don't think it was more than $200...

For your motor, 4AFE

The clutch was 120. Its only been in the car for two years. Its the third clutch I've put in the car in the last 3 or 4 years. They keep coming back shattered. Either autozone clutches don't hold up to toyota needs or the fact that i don't have a 3rd gear and have to go from 2 to 4 is hurting the clutch.

Autozone do sell stuff that seems great at a "affordable" price.... But their $25 brake pads cost me $200 when my brakes locked up and slid into a curb. I now have ceramics ($40), locking up the brakes on dry and wet pavement is a lot harder to do now. And also, no brake fade. Those semi-mets, brake fade 24-7.

Spend a bit more on the clutch stuff. Should be a kit; Friction plate, pressure plate, and bearing.

About skipping third gear, that may be a source of the problem. With all the engines torque trying to move a car, 2nd to 4th is still a good amount of weight to move depending how fast you came out of 2nd to get into 4th. A weight too great may cause the pressure plate to "bounce" since the engine torque is forcing it to spin while the cars weight is opposing it. Feels like shutters/ vibrations when engaging. But I doubt this may be the root of the problem...

I try to avoid shifting into 4th from 2nd until im about 35mph. I'd get another transmission but they are rather pricey for a rebuilt.

Grab one from a junkyard. Look for cars that had been rear-end or something.

If I could find a c 160 that was off the engine I'd get that cause I imagine it would be alot of fun and almost a direct bolt with only a few modifications. Would be my biggest task to undertake though. Most I've seen are on the engines online.
