New Toyota Participant-Oil Press.

Hi, I just bought a 91 Toyota Corolla and the oil light will come on when I come to a stop or slow down, then go out after I accelerate, unless I just started it for the day, when it is still cold. A friend of mine had a Corolla yrs ago ago and it did the same thing. He flushed it out w/ something and it fixed it. Any suggestions or past experiences would be greatly appreciated.

to the nation, Jim. Moving your thread to the proper Corolla forum so the people there can help you out. Also, don't forget to check out the sticky threads in the forum and use the search tool as well.

Check your oil. I bet it is low and leaking somewhere.

Replace the oil pressure sending unit. The LAST thing you want to do to an old engine is start flushing it out.

I agree that you don't want to be flushing out the engine. Doing that will eventually cause engine oil leaks or other problems, as you loosen up things that are holding an old engine together.

Even worse than leaks, if some of the crud you flush loose ends up in the rod or main bearings, the engine will be scrap in a hurry. Stay away from the flush and just swap out the oil pressure sending unit before anything else.

This same question was asked earlier by same person and solutions were already given. Once again try replacing the sending unit.
