tire wear indicates?

My 88 FX is wearing through front tires in less than 10K miles. The inside tread is down to cord but the outboard tread is only 1/2 worn or less. I was thinking the toe in is overly agressive. A friend whos opinion I respect says to check the lower ball joints.

To check the lower ball joints the jack should be centered under the frame until the tires are off the ground right? Lift the tire by prying it from the outboard bottom and look for vertical movement?

Any other ideas?

Tire wear like you are describing has nothing to do with toe in.

You have too much negative camber.

Is the car lowered? If it is then you will need to get an alignment kit, every company that sells lowering springs carries the alignment kits. Eibach's is aroung $25-30

toe can wear the edges of tires as well, toe and camber tend to go hand in hand. when camber is wrong then toe is also out of whack. yes, lower or lift the one corner of the car by the lower control arm as near the tire as possible and then use a bar to move the wheel up and down and shake it side to side. it should feel solid when shook or pried at.

Take it to an alignment shop and have them check out the specs.

Negative camber doesn't cause excessive wear. Toe does. Take it to an alignment shop and have the toe set to zero.

stock toe is usually not 0, it's usually a little bit of toe in.

but yes, this seems like way too much wear for camber, it's probably toe. unless the car is really lowered .

Yes it does, if you have a mercedes... (and why not on a corolla too). But in this case less than 10k is really little mileage for tires.
