Here's a bump, I'd like to know more about a high output alternator for our 6th gen Corollas. I've recently upgraded my audio setup, although right now my sub's amp isn't the highest powered thing around, I know it's going to put more of a drain on my charging system. Also I'm running a smaller amp for the factory speakers...

Anyways I've been doing a search for about 40 minutes now, and not coming up with too much except something posted on the All-Trac forum (http://cpgenerator.com/highampaltern...yotaacura.html). I've heard about having an auto electric shop rebuild / re-wrap(?) an alternator to get more amps. Is this worth doing vs spending ~$200 on a new alt?

One thing I've seen when reading up on this just now is that you want higher idle amps, not just "higher output." It's no good to have a 120 amp alternator if it only puts out the higher amps at higher RPMs... and gives you like 30 amps at idle RPMs.

You should use a capacitor for your audio system. It'll solve the dimming headlights and such problems when you're ramming that sound system.

I believe I saw a few, maybe like 3 or 4, high output alternators on ebay before. All were for 4AGE fitment.

^ That's something I heard about... so if I had one of those, I wouldn't need to have an HO alternator as well?

I linked to a site with an HO alt in my previous post... about halfway down that page you'll see one for the 4A-FE, for $200.

I'd say cap as well... not sure if I ever saw a H.O. alternator for our cars before, enquire at an alternator rebuilder's shop, maybe they can rebuild it for your needs.

With a capacitor, it's a power storage. So when the bass hits that demands a high amount of power, the stored power would come from the capacitor first.

I'd say if you only have a sound system (head unit, speakers, 2 subs, etc), a capacitor will do. If you have other things like entertainment TV's, lots of various lightings, then that's when you would want to consider a high output alternator if all those stuff are to be on everytime you're in the car.

I'm not sure if an HO alternator is good or bad to an everyday car battery, though.

Using properly sized wires and running the speakers with amplifiers and not from the head unit itself solves alot of things.

I had roughly 1300W running from an 70A alternator without lights flashing.

id go with the capacitor and/or a second battery conected to the whole system like an Optima or one that may be similar this is what most audio installers do here in PR and works best even if youre asking so much power out of it and its cheaper to do. A high amp alternator will just make you waste money
