Gen6 Slowest project car thread, EVER!

First off let me introduce myself, my name is Gerardo (or J-Rod for short) and I live in South Cali, and this my friends is my wonderful POS, a pristinely crappy 1992 Corolla sedan that I managed to get for $500. I got it for that much because it was sitting in a paint shop for over a year and the shop owners wanted it out. At the time I was driving Automatic 1992 Paseo, and let me tell ya I couldn't pass a semi if it meant my life in that thing. So after a quick test drive I was impressed at how well the Corolla picked up over the Paseo, even though it's still slow as hell, I decided to buy it and gift the Paseo down to my cousin. So that's pretty much it how I ended up with the freshly painted Corolla.

I didn't take pictures of it when I got it and it really hasn't changed much at all in these pics other than the cluster with the RPM and a couple of missing things here and there.

Anyways heres my little rolla.

If I had the money I'd start out like 4doorGTS started with his in the "Project: Empty Wallet" but I don't so the best I could do right now is for you 4doorGTS (don't know your name =/ ), and another for jmaz because your car is fu**ing sick.

I didn't want to put in any major update in the first post so now for the first couple of updates.

First of all I NEEDED the GTS suspension so as soon as I heard the junkyard was having a 50% off on everything I knew it was my shot to get what I needed for the rolla. So I was off and I managed to get the sway bars, the front control arms and the rear discs.

The first thing to go in was the rear sway, I did it a couple of days before anything else went in.

They should have just put in the sway bars as a OEM feature...

DONE!

BTW! KYB's and brake cleaner DON'T GO TOGETHER!

Now it was time for everything else, I'm lucky I live in SoCal because I can work outside in the middle of winter

The only difference with the control arms

I needed these muthas too

I had to drop the exhaust from the muffler to the front so I could scoot the front sway bar up because of my cheap chit catalytic converter.

Finally after about an hour I was done!

I know my undercarriage is dirty, I just need to get myself a new steering rack, some degreaser and a pressure washer and bam! But until then it's a dirty undercarriage and no power steering for me...

And finally my rear disc brakes!

Before I cleaned em and after

I only got the bare minimum for the conversion because money is short.

I'll post more pics of how it came out when I get the chance.

And BTW I also managed to pull this out of the same GTS.

For my next upgrade I was thinking about the 93 Corolla front disc brakes. It's just that Corollas are so fast I need that extra stopping power

Great start the sways are by far the best thing you can do to the sedan to start. Your lucky the US cars have plugs in the back holes for the sway bar mounts, I had to drill holes in mine then fish some bolts down through the holes. Again I am f'n jealous of you southern guys and all the damn clean parts you have. Could have saved soo much time/money if I had access to that stuff. Steering wheel looks great also, how about the seats from that gts? will bolt into any sedan and are much more supportive.

Any chance you can pull the complete power steering lines off a gts for me if they are as clean as the other parts you pulled off of it?

All you really really need are the knuckles (caliper, rotor, handbrake lines and all them other goodies), the rearmost suspension arms (I really have no idea what they're called) and last but not least, the proportioning valve on the firewall right behind the engine.

I found it strange that the GTS had the same seats as mine, must've been changed or something. I've been looking for some clean GTS seats, the thing is the heavy rain last month ruined most interiors. For the PS lines I could see to that, I'd be more than happy to help you out with your cars. Pretty much everything down here is rust free if that's what you mean, other than the oil and dirt, I shouldn't have much trouble finding some.

Thanks. Unfortunately I'm not as far south as you. I'm about an hour North East of LA.

very nice man!

I love the charcoal interiors in them, then again I'm just getting sick of the all blue interior between both the corolla and celica.

Also its nice to see some pictures of the sway bar swap and rear brake conversion. Its been talked about, but this is the first time I've seen pictures. Something I was always interested in when I had my sedan.

Do you have anything else planned for her?

lol I've been through my dash so many times I could take it all apart blindfolded, like the time when I had to replace the radio antenna cable that someone just decided to cut off, or like the time I got that new cluster or like the 5 times I've changed my stereo. It does't even bother me to take apart the dash anymore

I really want to do this AE92 Front Brake Upgrade I just haven't actually seen it in pictures, and if I do manage to do it I'll need to get some new rims which I don't have the money for. Either way I know this is gonna be my next upgrade.

My real goal is getting it to a respectable 210hp at the wheels and I plan to do that with a 4agze, sorry guys I'm just not a turbo person. Anyways that's the long term, until then I'll just keep tinkering with it.

Pancho Vanilla... lol y sus mujeres a la orilla?

nice ride man, I'd kill for one of those down here... so hard to find with no rust, due to the salting on the roads in the winter.

I just got a short shifter installed on my car with the help of spacedog0o1 and quite frankly it's working great!

Here are the finished pics of it

~3.4 in. throws

and this was my bootlegged short shifter I had before

It's a work in progress and there's a lot that needs to be done but it's getting there.

I'd also like to thank spacedog0o1 for installing it for me, I'll be looking forward for more contributions from him.

I am being just such a jerk today.....

unless you put a lot of money and/or time (or an SC14)... or nos... you won't get 210whp with a 4agze.

you will, however, have an n/a feel (power right off the bat) and decent torque off the line.

a "170hp" 4agze (ae101 with the 8.9:1 pistons, smallport head, and 10psi pulley/newer sc12) you'll realistically maybe see 150whp.
